Thanks Lt., that would be great and I have sent my address via PM. The sun came out for a little bit Saturday so I got to reset my internal compass. I have been struggling with being exactly backady asswards and had north as south and east as west. So I have had to rely on maps, street signs etc., to navigate. But then, I wouldn?t accuse this place of paying a lot of attention to maintaining street signs, etc., aarrgg. With the compass reset I can now get back to dead reckoning and that works a lot better. Yesterday, 6 Dec, was St. Nicholas day here and that is celebrated separately from Christmas, and that is viewed as a strictly religious celebration. Not a bad idea keeping the two separate, I think. And the good news is that there are no PC cops messing with definitions, the kiddo?s fun times, etc.
I have come to find out that I live in the city of Pest on the east side of the Danube and the city of Buda is on the west side of the river. Evidently they are billed as separate cultures but I can?t tell the difference so I?ll take it on faith that it is so. I gather that it?s along the lines of the Hatfields vs. the McCoys and goes way, way back.
The Hungarian language is distantly related to the Finnish language and has no roots in any Latin, Germanic or Slavic language. So, it?s an isolated language but it sounds like it spells, more or less, so a cross dictionary works out, at least for the moment. For navigation purposes, hid=bridge, tere (Sometimes ter) =square and utca =street and that?s well enough for now and I have definitely memorized all that.
Thanks again Lt. and I?ll be sure to get some pics with the Pysco Vet MC hat displayed in Statue Park, maybe on the Lenin statue, eh.
