Saudi Arabia has to import sand.
Well, that just shorted out my brain for a while. That's like saying Florida has to import fish.

Sad state of affairs:
I live in Atlanta, GA. You can still (again?) get a Coca-Cola (non-classic) in a green glass bottle here, made with real sugar, with a metal cap that does not twist off... ...They go for $18.99/case of 24, are available at the International Market, and bear the words "Hecho En Mexico". But at least they are available

Too young to remember but sum1 told me
Fifteen cents for a McDonalds hamburger. Quart of milk out of the vending machine at the end of the street for a quarter. Twenty-nine nine for a gallon of gasoline, there was no such thing as unleaded and when you pulled up to the pump you did NOT get out of the car because a guy had rushed to the drivers side window and simply asked, regular or premium? You answered him and he started pumping the gas, got a squeegy and scrubed the windshield and towel dried both the squeegy and the windshield and then asked you to "pop the hood please" at which point he checked the oil level and cleaned off the dip stick with the rag he had in his back pocket. You had to be driving a truck with an empty tank to put ten dollars of gasoline into the tank and the quart of oil was thirty cents for detergent and twenty cents for bulk.
There was a balcony in the RKO Palace and ten cent matinee's on Saturday afternoon. How about drive in theaters with play grounds and when you got older you'ld go to watch the submarine races. Lovers lanes, and a restraunt that you pulled in and parked at a spot and then pushed the button on the box beside the drivers door window which bought a response "order please." Five minutes later a teen aged girl brought just exactly what you ordered to your cars' window. A quarter was a huge tip and if you gave it to her she would remember you specially the next time you came to the restraunt. Technocolor. Dad brought home a television and if he had just waited a few more years they were actually making color T-V's. Does anyone remember the black box with a crank on its side in the kitchen? You went to the box, picked up the thing hanging from one side and turned the crank on the other side which rang a bell. You put the thing that you took off the box to your ear and you heard "Number please?" You answered Tuxedo six, five, oh, six, seven and the voice said "One moment please." Three minutes later the voice came back on the phone and said "three minutes" to which you replied "more time." If you didn't reply to the three minute warning you were disconnected and heard a dial tone. 'Course all that was before my time but I remember some old fart telling me about those times.

I also recall getting a pack of Luckies back then for 25 Cents and on the side
of the pack was 3-pennies. 4 gallons of gas for 1$ and bulk oil 15 cents a quart.

Our cokes today are made with Corn Syrup the old formula used Cane Sugar if you go to a Mexico Store you can find Coke there still made with Cane Sugar and it does taste different. Even in Atlanta GA ,where Coke has its head quarters, you can find Mexican made coke. Bootlegged in for the Migrant and illegal immigrants who prefer it to our corn sugar formula at the Mexican run Stores.
BTW here are some wrappers for NECCO Skybars and GooGoo Clusters

Thanks for the memories!
Ahh, Skybars and Goo Goo Clusters. Both still available at Cracker Barrel.
Steve..those look like Keds but could be PF Flyers. I was a Keds Kid and one of my brothers wouldn't wear anything but PF Flyers. Coke tastes like crap since they went with High Fructose Corn Syrup, which will kill you worse than sugar ever could. Gracie.....get me a case of the real thing before the gathering in April.....PLEASE! If money is a problem, have Sid repay you and I'll take care of him in April. Pack
