I used to help Mom wash clothes by running them through the wringer.

My mom had one of those wringer washers. One day it broke down and she was forced to go to the local laundromat and use automatic washers and dryers. She got home, sat the old man down, and told him he was going to buy her a set. Being a good (and smart) husband, he complied.

Default I bought my folks a washer.

After I moved out and was on my own I bought them a wash machine. They would have had that old wringer until they died, but once they got the new machine they wouldn't let it go.

Father Packwolski,

No Prob!!! I consider it an embarrassment that mainstream America was bamboozled by the "New Coke" advertising blitz of the '80's. Ohhhh, Silly Gringos...

Steve,

Most of Gen-X had those type of shoes, too. LONG LIVE CHUCK TAYLOR!!!

I remember some of them. Dad never got rid of his Converse high tops. Holding on to them long enough (scary) that I fit into them. My neighbor had the ringer washer. And heres another.

Robert,

Yeah, we had that Saturday thing too. It was great!

20 cents to get in, popcorn and coke were 10 cents each.

They would show a newsreel, a bunch of local ads, a cartoon, a short feature...usually The Three Stooges or Commando Cody and the Radar Men from the Moon, and then a main movie.

Kept us kids out of trouble (mostly) for the whole afternoon!

The local movie theater was only a block away from my house and it became the perfect place for my mother to send us to get us out of her hair. And I loved it! I'd go with my cousins and friends and we'd spend any given cold, snowy, rainy, etc Saturday afternoon watching Hercules, The White Warrior, anything by John Wayne, selected shorts, cartoons, and it was cheap; a quarter admission, 10 cents for popcorn, 10 cents for a coke, and a nickel for a Hershey bar.

Last year my wife and I went to see The DaVinci Code. We went to the concession stand and asked for 2 medium popcorns and 2 bottles of water. I gave the girl a 20, she gave me $2 in change! Fortunately the tickets were a gift.

"If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store."

"When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 29 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage."

"Kids today are impossible. Those duck tail hair cuts make it impossible to stay groomed. N! ext thi ng you know, boys will be wearing their hair as long as the girls."
"I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying 'damn' in 'Gone With The Wind,' it seems every new movie has either "hell" or "damn" in it.

"I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas ."

"Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the president."

"I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now."
"It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet."

"It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work."

"Marriage doesn't mean a thing any more; those Hollywood stars seem to be getting divorced at the drop of a hat."

"I'm just afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot ! of fore ign business."
"Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to government."

"The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on."

"There is no sense going to Lincoln or Omaha anymore for a weekend. It costs nearly $15 a night to stay in a ho! tel."

"No one can afford to be sick any more; $35 a day in the hospital is too rich for my blood."

"If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it."

Know friends who would get a kick out of these? Pass it on!
