2/2 Marine "Warlords" Pressure on the enemy
March 30, 2010
One Marines View Pressure on the enemy Your warriors continuing to punish the enemy on ground where the enemy once thought they owned. We continue to discover sometimes dozens IEDs a day compounded with the typical afternoon small arm fire engagement. We have continued to be successful because of the turn of events from local nationals aiding us and frequently telling us where IEDs are placed. They are tired of the intimidation from the enemy and are risking threats to assist us. It’s paying off for them and us as the enemy continues to become frustrated. http://www.onemarinesview.com Remember what today is about. Regardless of your beliefs, remember. Know that although churches will be filled, and services conducted, your Marines continue to hunt the enemy with a relentless accomplishment. There are no colored eggs or (melted) chocolate bunnies. The air is filled with blowing dust and the sounds of local area are still & quiet, for now. Patrols finish up and return to base as others prepare to go out. The continuous hunt for the enemy gains momentum as the holiday arrives. There are no special meals or events planned but perhaps an extra religious service held next to a tent by a visiting chaplain for those that can attend. Not sure what the day will entail as the enemy won’t hold off just because of the content of the day. Throughout my travels I happen to look down and in a sea of rocks this rock caught my eye. Thousands of rocks, walked over time and time again and as timing would have it, I happen to look down and see this single rock. Poppy Fields in AFG
Poppy Fields in AFG
Posted: 07 Apr 2010 04:41 AM PDT One Marines View The poppy field crops are coming into harvest about now. In 2007, 93% of the opium in the world market came from Afghanistan. This comes to be about $64 billion with less than a quarter going to farmers, and the rest going to district officials, insurgents, warlords and drug traffickers. Go figure that! You’re a farmer, work yer butt off only to have some armed thugs come take your years work and pay you pennies. With the integration of new crops (wheat) etc, we are changing the above. 120 Days of Wind In Afghanistan
120 Days of Wind In Afghanistan
One Marines View Posted: 12 Apr 2010 04:19 AM PDT http://www.onemarinesview.com It sweeps across Afghanistan's desert steppes and mountains at speeds that can top 100 mph, pummeling the country relentlessly with sand and dust. Known as "The Wind of 120 days," the phenomenon is a blessing and curse for the millions of people who live in its path. "We have a saying," said Bagram resident Mohammad Safa, 54. "If you eat poison little by little, eventually you'll get used to it." The winds usually blow between June and September, they have arrived early this year , making it difficult to see and sometimes hard to breathe. But in the dry summer heat, they also ease the sweltering. Afghans Innocent One Marines View http://www.onemarinesview.com Afghans most innocent, protected by America’s strongest….the heroes daily task continues as it’s not always the extremist you run into. More often it’s these locals that get caught in the crossfire and try to make a living in this place. Be grateful for what you have. They are… A Hot One Today One Marines View Posted: 09 Apr 2010 12:12 PM PDT http://www.onemarinesview.com For all that is holy, it was hot today. We attended a few key leader engagements (meetings with locals) and when we came back my uniform was soaked. I’m not bitching, just describing it to you as there are hundreds of young studs out doing this daily without letting up. You know you are sweating when your boot laces are wet from the sweat running down your legs. I’ve downed 3 bottles of water and don’t have to go to the head….sorry kidneys. Guess that pot of coffee this morning wasn’t the best call. A cigar should help… Follow link below for the rest of the story and pics: http://www.onemarinesview.com
