Spouses of active duty members, DoD civilians, and DoDDS personnel stationed in Europe can register for the Spouse On-line Computer, Knowledge and Skills or SOCKS program to enhance their future career opportunities. The program allows registered members to access the training from any computer connected to the internet. There are currently more than 270 courses available to users at no cost to them. According to Laila Christensen, Community Readiness Consultant at the RAF Mildenhall Airman & Family Readiness Center, the program is funded on a fiscal year basis and anyone signing up now would have until October 31, 2012 to finish as many modules as they would like. She explained that the program is simple to register for and easy to navigate. Interested spouses can stop into their base AFRC with their military identification card and complete a registration form. After the registration is entered into the system the user will receive an e-mail with their user ID and password and can immediately begin using the SkillSoft training software available 24/7. “The program can make them more marketable in the workforce. 95% of jobs now require computer knowledge and this training can assist any military spouse with their employment,” Christensen remarked on the program’s benefits. According to Christensen the RAF Mildenhall AFRC has 80 slots of which only 27 are in use currently. She encourages spouses to make the most of this program and register now. To explore the program’s possibilities take a tour at http://www.skillsoft.com/infocenter/...port-info.html or contact your AFRC. More... |
