Thumbs up Getting Happily Petty

12-23-2020

“Just how much – is ever enough, and is there really any bottom line to all of this jubilation?”

The old saying about “Give some people an inch, and they will take a mile” seems never to be truer than in today’s society, where a gift of kindness is sometimes followed by more demands? “But Once Upon A Time”, however, the smallest of gifts, and even a kind word or two, really brightened up a person’s day! And most of all - it brought back the humanity to the words: “Human Being!”

So in the intended spirit of this season of brotherly love and joy, “I Say Once Again”:

“HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS and A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR - MY EXTREMELY GOOD FRIENDS!”

Arrow Christmas Holiday

I always wonder what folks don't celebrate Christmas so I looked it up.

1. What do atheist celebrate instead of Christmas?

One of the more popular alternative celebrations for atheists at Christmas is observing the Winter Solstice. Since this is merely a date on the calendar that marks the beginning of astronomical winter, it doesn't have any inherent religious meaning.

1a. What does an atheist believe?

1a. The literal definition of “atheist” is “a person who does not believe in the existence of a god or any gods,” according to Merriam-Webster. And the vast majority of U.S. atheists fit this description: 81% say they do not believe in God or a higher power or in a spiritual force of any kind.

2. What religions do not celebrate Christmas?

Millions of Christians do not observe Christmas. Among them are Quakers, Jehovah's Witnesses, and members of the Churches of Christ. Some of the half-dozen Christian faiths that do no celebrate Dec. 25 contend there is nothing in the Bible that says Christ was born on that day.

2a. Which country is not celebrating Christmas?

Countries in which Christmas is not a formal public holiday include Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bhutan, Cambodia, China (excepting Hong Kong and Macau), the Comoros, Iran, Israel, Japan, Kuwait, Laos, Libya, the Maldives, Mauritania, Mongolia, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, the Sahrawi ...

4. Where is Christmas banned?

Is Christmas illegal in China?

4a. Christmas is not a recognized holiday in mainland China – where the ruling party is officially atheist – and for many years authorities have taken a tough stance on anyone who celebrates it in public.

5. Is Buddhism an atheist?

5a. While Buddhism is a tradition focused on spiritual liberation, it is not a theistic religion. The Buddha himself rejected the idea of a creator god, and Buddhist philosophers have even argued that belief in an eternal god is nothing but a distraction for humans seeking enlightenment.

Here's one I didn't know:

1. Does it mention Christmas in the Bible?

Christmas is on Dec. 25, but it wasn't always. Dec. 25 is not the date mentioned in the Bible as the day of Jesus's birth; the Bible is actually silent on the day or the time of year when Mary was said to have given birth to him in Bethlehem.

2. Why do we celebrate Jesus birth on December 25?

The Roman Christian historian Sextus Julius Africanus dated Jesus' conception to March 25 (the same date upon which he held that the world was created), which, after nine months in his mother's womb, would result in a December 25 birth.

3. Why was Christmas banned in Scotland?

Before the Reformation in 1560, Christmas in Scotland had been a religious feasting day. Then, with the powerful Kirk frowning upon anything related to Roman Catholicism, the Scottish Parliament passed a law in 1640 that made celebrating 'Yule vacations' illegal.

The Origin Of Christmas
Re: https://happiness.lbccvt.com/?page=c...xoC15YQAvD_BwE

The celebration of Christmas started long ago with a baby boy named Jesus being born in a manger. The birth of Jesus is so important, because it is the true story of God sending his son to Earth for you and me. Now every year we recognize the birth of Jesus by celebrating Christmas. If you are looking for ways to celebrate Christmas this year or have questions about the history of Christmas, connect with someone today.
