Legends v Reality

“Life and The Old West are rife with stories of bravado and daring-do”, some of which may be more fantasy and speculation than actual fact? But for that matter, when have you ever heard any tale of daring-do that was not enhanced by its author to one degree or another? “So maybe, this is just the nature of humanity, for who among us has not been known to embellish the truth every now and then?

They do say, however, that: “But For The Grace of God!” And in all reality, just how much of any legend is steeped in truth, and just how much of it is pure, exciting, and unadulterated legend, just like the tales of “Old Buckskin Frank Leslie (?)”, “That Old Western Sharp Shooter” who nary met his match when it came to marksmanship and pure grit!

As a matter of fact, one does not have to journey all the way back to “The Old West” to find many people who are “Legends in but their own minds?” Or who, by virtue of some “Slick-Willy Publicist”, emblazoned their names into “The Annals of World History?” But for the record, just how many of these tales really have any basis in fact, and how many more of them would be far better suited “To Hollywood Than History” - and they might have been just that?

In fact, if one could have been that nearly invisible little-old fly on the walls of history, I wonder just how many marvels of fact and perfection just might have to be rewritten in the name of truth? Or if many a saga that is now accepted as being the absolute truth, might really have been naught but a figment of someone’s overly ripe imagination?

“Oh, how truth doth sometimes make liars and fools of us all!” So in the interest of expediency, legend, or even literary license, let me just say that everything that you have ever heard, or even anything that you have even read about, is absolute fact, now isn’t that right?
