Default Freedom of the press

Here we go again. ABC News tonight reported on the Americans preparations for an attack on Iraq and went as far as showing satellite photos of aircraft hangers and expanded runways in Qatar. They went so far as to report where the probable operational headquarters would be located and showed the photo of that building. Is this responsible journalism?
Does the press take the guaranteed ?Freedom of the Press? and endanger American Forces in the process? Do the Journalist have the right to report on the complete logistics of our armed forces? Giving the who, what, where, and when. Doesn?t this further endanger our troops? Do they give a damn?
Gee! I don?t remember them reporting on the logistics being supplied through the Ho-Chi Minh Trail. Instead when we tried to shut the trail down we were attacked by the Vietnamese, the American press, and the Anti-war protestors who had not seen for themselves what was happening in VN but were being fed BS by the press. After all we were bombing Laos and Cambodia and therefore ?expanding the war.?
OOOOOORRRRRRRR perhaps I just forgot. We did loose that war didn't we? Must have. I heard that on ABC News too.

Mmm in the Falklands War the BBC reported the attack on Goose Green before it went in! The press can be a liability! Now more so! Discuss!

Default We need something like the British "Official Secrets Act"

So we can shut down a paper that violates OPSEC. FREEDOM OF THE PRESS! you cry? The press seems to want to do away with the second amendment, so I'm all for doing away with freedom of the press.

Angry original intent

The Original Intent of Freedom of the Press was that the press could express different political views without being arrested as criminals by the political establishment. It never meant it should tell military secrets, or that the press could harbor their sources, etc. And, it never went to pornography. Our modern courts have made rulings on the constitution that go way beyond the original intent. I believe that is a great mistake. We need to get back to the original intent.

Default Have you ever considered that.....

maybe someone purposely leaked information to certain sources for the express purpose of finding out who had a "big mouth"? I wonder. But like most of you.....I am not a fan of the media and its reporting of the news. Tends to be too one-sided for me and generally leftwardly leaning.

The courts in their rulings have stood up for the press to the extent that the press now arrogantly thinks that they are above it all and can literally get away with murder.

I find it amazing that little attention is paid to a fallen American who died in combat in their reports.....but if one of their fellow prognosticators catches a bullet they run 30 minute "crying towel specials" and expect us to cry our eyes out...... These people are so arrogant that they even have the timerity to think that our national enemies should put aside their "feelings" and embrace them.
Lord, I am ever amazed at the level of stupidity demonstrated by people.......

I too wish that the courts would return to interpreting the original intent of the Constituion....and stop giving out edicts tantamount to knee-jerk reactions to demands of special interest groups like the press and others.

Pretty hard to believe that it was a deliberate "Leak" to see who has a big mouth. When was the last time you heard of someone being prosecuted for leaking something to the Media? I think it's time to prosecute the Media that print stuff that's classified or of an OPSEC nature. Maybe if an editor and a publisher spend a few years in jail for it the message will get to the rest of the sensation seekers.
