Disillusionment seems to be the name of the game these days! And I fear that this sad state of social affairs includes distrust for many who reside, all the way from the top of the heap to the bottom of the pile, DC to the neighborhood dumpster included!

As for the habits [i.e.- head to toe tattooing, body piercing etc] of today's youth [and not so young], hey, we can all hope that this, like most other "Freaky Fads" [opinion], passes on with time? Fads, after all (even an aversion to a bar of soap and a tub of hot water, or stapling baubles to one's lip, nose, belly-button and even genitalia), have come and gone for centuries! Hey, maybe these people should hang advertising symbols from their body parts, like a Coke can from their noses, or a bottle of Viagra from their sex organs. That way, they can make a buck or two $$ from the manufactures, while looking like something out of the ?Twilight Zone or a Stephen King movie!!? [opinion]

I have always attempted to hold on to the idea that on the inside [where it counts], Americans are something special! When push comes to shove, or adversity attacks in force, Americans [be they socially correct [?], grundge, hippie, or political drop-out], all attempt to pull together in a common [unifying] direction - "Or at least, I hope they do?! The one equation that never seems to change, however, [at least in the last half century] is the fact that "Most? Politicians, ?Many? Bureaucrats, and ?All? Money For The Sake of Money & Power Alone - Factions, continue to try to convince themselves [and their wanna-be contenders for parasitic equality], that they, and they alone, should dictate all avenues of human survival!

Well, leaders we must have, but self deifying, untouchable demi-gods, ?We Need Not!? And some of these "Sired To Be Lords" genuinely believe that most of us are naught but mindless sheep, or that any end justifies the means, including habitual, pre-planned untruth! "Nothing, however, could be further from fact?, at least in my humble opinion, as all such fads [political spin-doctors included], are but temporary features!

Tradition, national pride, creativity, love of country [including change where and when needed], and patriotic cause, on the other hand, are ?True American Icons!? And even Thomas Jefferson, insisted that "A little [social] rebellion now and then is a good thing!" And was it not ?Old Abe Lincoln? who once echoed the statement that: "This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their Constitutional right of amending [changing] it, etc!?

"A leader, in my opinion, is naught but an echo of majority will, and not the ?SOLE? architect of ever-changing national policy or transient political thought! Nor can any American leader assume that he [or she] is an omnipotent state of being - one that is above and beyond the Constitution, or the demands, needs and desires, of the majority!" (hrt-02)

What a great and novel concept My Friend. Still, wasn't Majority Rule what America was basically founded upon way-back-when?

I don't believe that Our Forefathers intended our having A MINORITY (both ways) RULE or governance by Ruling Elite and/or lordly politicos after winning The Revolutionary War. In fact, lordly foreign rule and foreign dictates were what We Colonials were trying to escape from, and the main reasons for the very War itself.

So, and since a state of lordliness by Officialdom still prevails and is joyously accepted by most all Americans (especially around campaign times), I guess it's fair saying that: British or any foreign lordliness is bad. Whereas American lordliness is good.
Well,...that's how: "Weirdsville USA" seems to me, anyway.

I sure hope you're right brother, but everything I've seen leads me to believe that most Americans ARE sheep..following the latest fads, emulating the fashions and behaviors of "celebreties" (sp), mouthing popular platitudes, and buying self-help, pop-psyche books by the bleeding millions. People cannot act with common sense without being "validated" by this or that person, institution or movement. Most folk can't or won't think for themselves..they abdicate the education of their children to professional "educators", depend on the clergyfor their religious life instead of developing a closer personal relationship with God, sue for damages due to their own stupidity or product misuse, and so on and so on ad infinitum. Sorry if I sound negative but I've seen little to convince me otherwise..course there are cases of it here or there but certainly not on a lare scale.

You are no more negative than I, Advisor. But we're becoming lonely cries in the wilderness of liberalism, political correctness and legal mumbo-jumbo.

Anyone who refers to him- or herself as a "professional educator" immediately loses my support. What in the hell happened to plain, old-fashioned TEACHERS? They're the non-pompous people who really make a difference, if they are just given the chance. "Educators" - bah!

I've heard repeatedly that the citizens of this country will wake up and not allow anarchy to take over in the USA. But I wonder to what citizens folks refer. Don't do this, don't say that, don't even think this, no one is responsible for his/her own actions and statements, criminals are really the victims and must not be incarcerated or put to death, reparations, - the list goes on and on.

I thank God (can I still say that?) that I'm not raising children today, and I fear for my grandchildren.

You really shouldn't hold back. Beating around the bush will give you an ulcer. The reader's who've commented to your brief are all in agreement so we should vote!

We need a leader someone we can be proud to say we would follow. Currently I don't know of any! All the good ones have died or left this good earth.

We need recommendations - who would you follow if they were living? I've got to think about this for a little while.
