![]() (I support Bush and I'm glad he was the one in office on September 11.
However, I just can't follow his reasoning in some areas. At times it seems as if he doesn't give a crap about the public safety.) Bush to staff: "Since we aren't going to do anything to secure our bordes, we may as well let Mexican trucks run willy nilly all over the country! Who cares if they may be carrying biological or chemical bombs. They may even be carrying nuclear warheads and smuggling terrorists. Even if they aren't, we all know that the trucks coming out of Mexico cause hundreds of horrific accidents every year. Bald tires! Bad brakes! Overloaded! No maintainence! Why should the destruction be limited to the border states? Lets let them run all over the country. Hey! That will really piss the Liberals off!" President Bush Opens U.S. Roads to Mexican Trucks The Associated Press Published: Nov 27, 2002 WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush gave the go-ahead Wednesday for Mexican trucks to travel U.S. roads beyond commercial border zones where they have been restricted while inspection sites and new regulations were put in place. The decision comes nearly a year after Bush had said he wanted to allow Mexican trucks on U.S. roads, in compliance with a provision of the North American Free Trade Agreement. Mexican trucks and buses won't be on U.S. highways until the Department of Transportation can review applications from carriers. It must then grant qualifying carriers provisional operating authority. "President Bush has made good on his commitment to open the border to international trucking and cross-border regular route bus service. This will help increase trade between our countries," Secretary Norman Mineta said in a news statement. |

![]() Though, I must admit that such information isn't very reassuring at all. After all, and regarding all the fanatical enemies of America or murderous predators abounding nowadays in America,...such info STILL makes me feel just as safe as many of the newborn turtles in Florida apparently feel, while trying to scurry their way to the relative safety of The Sea.
Plus,...and even though on perpetual "Alert" (of whatever color), not many turtles or possible victims usually make it to safety, even during the best of times. Such is the sad reality for both turtles and us. I sure hope I'm wrong, and Those-in-charge start treating this last: Pearl Harbor" (re. "9/11") just a seriously as the previous "Pearl Harbor" of 1941. Sure couldn't hurt FOR US. Let The Turtles fend for themselves. Neil |
