Talking Ron (and all): re MOAB bomb

I work about 11 miles from the Eglin AFB test range where they dropped it.

We are used to Mk82 and Mk84 bombs...they are always practicing with those. But this was like (I guess) a brief earthquake.
The ground kind of "dropped from under my feet".
We FELT it before we HEARD it.
Do blast waves travel through the earth faster than through the air?

82 Rigger, yes vibrations travel thru the ground faster than sound waves thru air. Do a search on earthquakes and associated "S" and "P" waves if you're interested in more info.

The Old Sarge

PS I was at Eglin Aux #2, Eglin AFB, and Hurlburt for three tours between '69 and '79. You at the Ranger camp?

Smile Old Sarge...

I live in lower Ft Walton Beach, close to HWY 98 and Eglin Parkway. Not TOO far from Camp Rudder. Have a close friend who was an instructor at the Ranger Camp during Desert Storm.
I work west of Niceville.
How did you like Eglin and Hurlburt??

Lil Lt, The stars are actually bronze. They just LOOK black. lol They denote the seperate campaigns that went on during my tours in Vietnam. (I forget just which ones they were but could look them up if you're interested.)
