![]() I had a most relaxing trip yesterday and last night to a friend's farm just north of Memphis. They have 52 acres with llamas, miniature donkeys, miniature deer, goats, sheep, horses, canada geese, ducks, and huge flocks of purple martins. They have a large pond full of fish, from which they trapped three beavers last year. I got to meet a llama up close and personal. They have the
most inquisitive and intelligent looking gaze. You expect them to start speaking any minute. Anyway, one of th llamas gave birth earlier in the day. The baby was having a lot of problems and couldn't stand up yet. Last August one of the male miniature donkeys, named "Meanie" killed a baby llama. They have him in a separate area now. When I went home last night I just felt real good. It is sometimes easy to get all wrapped in work and family and life in the city and forget about the country. I look forward to going there many times. Larry

![]() ...My Inlaws have 66 acres 45 miles west of us,...22 is swamp, or low lands and they milk "friendly" everyday, chickens for fresh eggs,...
... I'm building an addition off their sales barn now for another greenhouse, (did you ever try to make 25' beams out of 2X4's", double lapped over, and lag screwed), pain in the a$$ anyway, ... ...lots of deer, turkey, and varmits' and great bass pond, is truly a "getaway" from the rest of the world... ...

![]() I love to go back to my roots. Fortunately I live in a smaller community in the middle of the State of Washington. A rural community so I am never far from my roots. Llamas are cousins of the camels and both are known for their spitting if you annoy them. It seems you didn't annoy one. It sounds like the farm is more of zoo than a working farm. But, if it is rural and away from the city it must be relaxing.

![]() The owner is in his mid 70s. Some years back they raised show ponies. He comes out mostly on the weekends now. He wanted to build a house up on the hill about midway back but his wife likes living in the city...go figure...He just likes
lots of different kinds of animals. I told them they need to get some ostriches, giraffes, bears, and big cats !!! LOL .. The llamas he has are very tame. Not like camels at all. I still cannot get over how intelligent they look. Much smarter and more inquisitive than some dogs I have run across. The miniature donkeys are sweethearts also.... All except of the two males. All they do is raise hell ! It is only a few miles from where I lived my first 2 years... Lucy, TN. We then moved to Frayser, TN., which was annexed into Memphis in 1958. They made the road in front of our house wider right afterwards because of the International Harvester plant nearby. In the process they had to cut down a bunch of old trees including elms and oaks that had to be way over 150 years old !! There were some Baltimore Orioles that always nested in our big tree in the front, plus some blue jays and mockingbirds that terrorized me when I was little, when their nests were nearby... Larry

![]() My brother and I were raised on a farm in SE Oklahoma. We had a wildlife management area on our boundry so we had about 45,000 acres to roam in. When we were little we both got guns for our 10th birthdays, Mine was a single shot .22 and Rays was a single shot .410. We were great white hunters by the time we were 12. A lot of the land was old indian reservation land and we had a great time hunting and exploring it. We were talking about it when he was here visiting. There were several indian burial sites but we never bothered them, I wonder if anyone has been in there since we were kids? I will be passing through there in a week I think I will go to the old farm and see..
