Default $acred $ites?

Is Governor Gray Davis (California) courting ?Casino Money?, by declaring many more places in the Golden State to be ?Sacred Indian Sites??

Granted, ?Native Heritage? must be protected and preserved, but not in an attempt to pull off a ?Political Coup d Gras!? And of course, Governor Davis (an honorable Vietnam Veteran) will guarantee that these sites will not (some day) germinate and mushroom into yet more casinos? Nor should they (Casinos) be allowed to triple in size and appetite, like the exorbitant fees for license plates in California, come this October! ?This is hardly the stuff of re-election, I suspect?!?

?Hey, how about this?? What say we take (about) 5% of all California (and indeed United States wide) gaming profits, and utilize them (eliminating any Vestigial - VA Administrative Involvement), to (GENUINELY) assist all of our hurting veterans, many of whom are in dire straits!!

Remember this: "All of our veterans (many of them having some, or even a little - Indian Ancestry), once helped to protect us all!!" Now imagine the impact, if but a small portion of those countless (gambling $$) millions were used to help ease the pain, suffering or homelessness of many American Veterans, regardless of race, creed or heritage?! Of course, this just could end up being like all of that ?State Lottery Money? that was promised to our financially strapped schools? (The original- Invisible Con-Job Panacea!!)

Hey, and come to think of it, ?California?s Schools Are In Pi$$-Poor $hape too!!? All of that promised lottery money quickly evaporated from sight, right into the selective pockets of the well-connected, I suspect! (The perfect Crime)

Who in the hell needs schools anyway, as is evident from the financial rape of our (Ca) educational system of late? And yes indeed, the once sunny ($$) skies of California, have now turned ?GRAY? and ominous!

Part of the money for the recall has been put up by the Republican candidate Congressman Darrell Issa to get rid of said "Gray" skies.
Plus, we can all look at it as if it were an investment.
Anything to stop the friggin liberals in this state from throwing more good money after bad.
Unfortunately, I fear that the recall effort will either fall short, or, if passsed, it will be too close to the Democratic primary for it to work, all the Dems will be out in force then, and it likely won't succeed.

BC etc-

"Broke is an understatement, but this State (Ca.) is an not an anomaly!!" While many suffer, the upper echelon hasn't missed a beat, or a meal of steak and bubbly for that matter!

Now I don't begrudge the upper crust their loot, but when their money and power is attained and maintained by feasting upon the blood and sacrifices of the less fortunate (and many in California politics, regardless of affiliation do just that), then somewhere, somehow, the line must be drawn!! "Maybe at the polls, perhaps!"

I keep hearing (as a non-partisan, or bi-partisan if you prefer), how it is the "Davis Democrats" who are at fault, and how a "Republican Governor" would be a golden panacea for the State? But in reality, unemployment nationwide is out of control, and as such, how can a Republican do for the State, what they can not do for the nation en masse (in mass)?

If politicians are over endowed with anything, it's expensive imported vittles, money, and pure mental manure! This, however, does not speak to highly of those who vote them into office, and keep them there, now does it!?

Don't you just love a politico who has champagne and caviar dribbling down his (or her) chin, gas emerging from both ends at the same time, and a redundant lie upon their lips, telling us that: "We Never Had It So Good?!"

"Hey my good friend(s) - "It's all about Money, Power and Control!" And many politicians (State and Federal alike) can not sell what they do not own - their immortal soul! The pink slip on that little item is owned (solely) by the "Proprietor of The Infernal Regions! (opinion)

Yes Blues Clues, we Californians are in rough financial waters, and it is not likely to get any better soon, regardless of who lies their way into power this next time around! "You have got to show me!?" (H.S. Truman)

Now, for those of you who believe otherwise I say - "DREAM ON!!"
Bros., Dream On!!" There is a sucker born every minute, and not just in California!! (opinion)

I am quite certain that the sad state of affairs we are in, aren't going to get better any time soon, even with a recall.
This state is out of control when it comes to spending, (on the wrong things).
The only way it will end, is to lop the head off the beast, but I fear there is not a sword big enough for such a gargantuan task.

Default California Math

When confronted with a potential $35 Big Ones shortfall, the CA legislature did some fine tuning on the budget, and lopped off $8 billion. Now, like o'l razz-ma-tazz, I never was very good in math, but using the appropriate number of fingers, toes, and other protruding body parts, heh-heh, I still see a real shortfall of $27 billion. And these leg guys and gals think they've done a good thing? Isn't this like applying two rolls of duct tape to the San Andreas Fault, hoping to hold the pieces of California together? I wonder if they ever considered ending the free education and medical care and all the other bennies to wetbacks as a possible solution? Then again, if the federal govt. had been doing their job for the last 50 years, we wouldn't have the wetback problem that we do.

"Imminently Logical Super Scout!" And that is just what California is attempting as a bi-partisan fix - Scotch Tape, Spit, bailing wire and smoke rings, all held together with promises, theories and quicksand!

"This is not the way that it has to be, just the way it is!!" And like an old hound dog, it just don't hunt anymore!!

Well if Calif. state government would cut its expenditures for legal forms back to the basic English and Spanish versions and stop printing over a 100 different languages for each dialect some group ask for. They would save a bit of money and the rest can have a friend that speaks the two main languages interpit for them like they used to in the old days ......

JERRY D, et al-

These (language barriers) have been a long standing lament and problem here in California, and elsewhere too I suspect?

It is not a crime to primarily adhere to one's own basic language. But English (Americanized of course), is our national language, and enough of it should be learned to take part in the "Great Experiment!"

Granted, many still speak their own tongues amongst each other, and this is A-Ok by me! When, however, as you pointed out, great expense is incurred in printing forms in other languages because a race(s) refuses to learn the basics of our language (English), then a little rethinking must take place!

I have absolutely no problem with a variance of cultures - that is, after all what we (US) are all about. What bothers me the most, however, is when any (U.S. entrenched) ethnic body demands that we change our policies, our culture, our language, or our way of life to suit them, and this we have done many times!

If one comes to America (United States) to enjoy our liberties and freedoms, they should (and must) also be prepared to adopt our language, mandates, and most of our accepted ways as well! This includes, as you said Jerry, the basic language barriers, especially as concerns being able to handle voting, etc.!

When one comes to America to become part of what we are, then by God, "BECOME PART OF WHAT WE ARE, AND NOT WHAT SOME DEMAND TO MAKE OF US!!"

This attitude of attempting to change your host to suit oneself alone, even if undertaken by vested domestics, and sometimes carried through several generations, is "Old World", and "THIS IS NOT THE OLD WORLD!!" (These are my views and opinions....)
