Post Guess Who?

*When I read this, I thought that these statements (below) had been made by Teddy Roosevelt, Woody Wilson, or even another opinionated Colonel by the name of Street, one of J.P. Morgan's boys, well over 3/4 (?) of a century ago!

Hell, if not for the particular incidents and dates mentioned, the statements below could have been attributed by even a current politico or two!? "But alas, I was wrong on all counts - so see if you can guess the author?!"

---------------------------------------

?I helped to make Mexico safe for American oil interests in 1914!?

?I helped to make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank Boys to collect revenue in!?

?I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers!?

?I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916!?

?I helped make Honduras ?RIGHT? for American Fruit Companies in 1903, and

Looking back on it all, I might have given even Al Capone a few hints!!?
-----------------------------------------
Interview in New York Times, 21 August 1931 by Marine Corps General (r) Smedley D. Butler (Old Gimlet Eye), 1881-1940. ?And for the record, Smedley Butler was ?TWICE? awarded the (Congressional) Medal of Honor!!?

-----------------------------------------------
MEXICAN CAMPAIGN (VERA CRUZ) RECIPIENTS OF Medal of Honor

BUTLER, SMEDLEY DARLINGTON (First Award)

Rank and organization: Major, U.S. Marine Corps. Born: 30 July 1881, West Chester, Pa. Appointed from: Pennsylvania. G.O. No.: 177, 4 December 1915. Other Navy awards: Second Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Medal. Citation: For distinguished conduct in battle, engagement of Vera Cruz, 22 April 1914. Maj. Butler was eminent and conspicuous in command of his battalion. He exhibited courage and skill in leading his men through the action of the 22d and in the final occupation of the city.

HAITIAN CAMPAIGN 1915 MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS
BUTLER, SMEDLEY DARLINGTON (Second Award)

Rank and organization: Major, U.S. Marine Corps. Born: 30 July 1881, West Chester, Pa. Appointed from: Pennsylvania. Other Navy awards: Second Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Medal. Citation: As Commanding Officer of detachments from the 5th, 13th, 23d Companies and the marine and sailor detachment from the U.S.S. Connecticut, Maj. Butler led the attack on Fort Riviere, Haiti, 17 November 1915. Following a concentrated drive, several different detachments of marines gradually closed in on the old French bastion fort in an effort to cut off all avenues of retreat for the Caco bandits. Reaching the fort on the southern side where there was a small opening in the wall, Maj. Butler gave the signal to attack and marines from the 15th Company poured through the breach, engaged the Cacos in hand-to-hand combat, took the bastion and crushed the Caco resistance. Throughout this perilous action, Maj. Butler was conspicuous for his bravery and forceful leadership.

* Ya know, although Smedley Butler admitted (in his own words) that part of his actions were on behalf of ?Vested, Big Business?, you will note that it was ?ALWAYS AMERICAN BIG BUSINESS!?

Now, however, the only (in my opinion) recipients of economic rewards from our actions, seem to be foreign based, or politically entrenched! Maybe it?s because there is so little truly (100%) American owned big business left out there!?

As for this ?MAN? (Smedley Butler), he was truly one of Americas finest! And apparently, from what I have read of this ?Giant Of A Man?, he was not beyond calling them as he saw them!

Whereas, that Colonel (?) Street that I mentioned above, was naught but a political henchman for Morgan (opinion), who once remarked (He or his boss), as concerned the ?Old Rough Rider (Teddy Roosevelt himself) that: ?We (J. P. Morgan and Street I presume) bought the bastard, but he just wouldn?t stay bought!?

?We have sure come a long way since that day and age, as those now bought, usually stay bought!? (opinion)
