Default Dog food...what do you feed yours ?

Just wondered...we have a lot of dog owners here...What type of dog food do you feed your pets and why ?

I have always fed my dog dry food. Usually Purina and sometimes switch up with Iams and some Kibbles and Bits. I tried feeding Sable, my Sheltie, some canned food once but she had some bowel problems so didn't try it again. When I was a kid, seems like a long, long time ago, our dogs ate table scraps and canned food. Since there wasn't a lot of table scraps most times, they ate that pre-Alpo canned dog food. Not sure what it was made out of in those days, but the dogs loved it.

Ceasars all the way, ( except for when I cook Hamburger Steaks).

Our little Long Haired Dauchhound (dot-son) is what I call her is real smart, and dont want to ruin to much by the human foods.

Talking What we feed "Rocky" and "Bowinkle":

We feed "Rocky" and "Bowinkle" dry Dogfood that we purchase in bulk bags. Usually twenty-five or thirty pound bags. It lasts them a couple of weeks before the bag is empty and they don't seem to care which brand we purchase.

Each gets one Dog Dish full a day. In the dry food, we then mix in Table Scraps, and "Moist and Meaty" dog hamburger that come in plastic bags. (Usually six to ten plastic bags to a box) They get one half of the bag at each feeding.

After the Table Scraps and "Moist and Meaty" dog hamburger are mixed in with the dry Dogfood, we then mix in enough warm water to make a gravy mixture.

"Bowinkle" is a Lab Mix so SHE LIVES TO EAT. In fact, she will start to eat before the dog dish actually reaches the floor. "Rocky", on the other hand, is the picky eater. He takes his time and frequently does not finish all his food right off. He likes to leave a little and then go back later for "Seconds". The only problem with that is "Bowinkle" devours her food as fast as she can. After she laps her feed dish completely clean, she then sneaks away to see what "Rocky" had left in his dish. "Bowinkle" then finishes what "Rocky" left and then laps his dish clean as well.

"Rocky" and "Bowinkle" each have their own unique personalities and Dolores and I love each of them as if they are human children. They bring us many hours of happiness, love and affection.

To all my Vietnam Veteran Brothers and Sisters I again state:

Lil Chili gets Tysen boneless, skinless chicken tenders. Her bedtime snack is Hill's Science Diet Lite (dry crunchy). She also gets daily liquid vitamin supplements.

Default My little terrorist

Grunt/Frodo, the world's only manic Basset hound, gets Science Diet large breed. He needs Ritalin. He's also not too bad of a soccer player.

Default M'Dude

've got 4 dogs currently. Had as many as 15, but slowly pared down the "herd" through natural attrition (old age). I have always fed dry food myself, up until a couple of years ago.

My Great Dane developed a dry skin condition and subsequent hair loss when she was only a few months old. the vet tried several things, but to no avail. Finally, another Great Dane owner told me his dane had gone through the same thing. He said his dog was allergic to corn. He suggested try a food with no corn and see if this helped. I switched to Purina Lamb and Rice formula and within a couple of days, I saw a noticable improvement. After about six weeks, her skin condition was completly healed and I've fed my dogs this food ever since.

I also supplement the dry food with some "semi-soft" food called Meaty Meal, which I get from my local Sam's Club. My dogs love both the foods and their coats are the best of any dogs I've seen. The Lamb and Rice / Meaty Meal mixture is also good at controlling their weight, as it has much fewer non-digestable "fillers". This translates into much less fecal matter to have to clean up. And believe me, having large breed dogs Great Danes, Black Labs, etc.) this is very inmportant.

Thumbs up ROCKY, RAGS, AND RUBY

All Norwich Terriers. Rags and Ruby are litter mates, 4yrs. old. Rocky is 3. Feed them Nutro lamb and rice. Rocky gets Nutro weight control. He's runs a little to the "chunky" side . I've always fed my dogs quality dry food. Good dry food has less "fillers", is good for their teeth, coats, skin and, like Sgt. Tropo says, less "mess."
