Today in Waynesville Georgia ,Saturday Oct 11, I attended along with the members of the Capt James Knox #2022 SCV camp and the Brantley Co. Historical Society. We Put Up the Frame for the New Confederate Soldiers Park Museum and Library . It will be a Public Meeting place for both organizations and the Museum for the Confederate Soldiers Park and Cemetery. There were 20 volunteers present from 0630 till 1800 working to put up the building's frame.A low country boil and BBQ pork sandwiches were the menu for Lunch for the volunteers. It was reminiscent of the old fashion barn raising of our grandparents.
The Confederate Cemetery has one WW1 veteran interned and an unknown # of confederate veterans buried the wooden markers had deteriorated years ago . When the UGA gets the funds in the near future they are planning on doing ultrasonic imaging to mark out the graves for marking. If you happen to be in the SE Georgia area during next years G8 summit on Sea Island. The City of Waynesville ,Ga is only a 15 mile drive from the conference and the Confederate Soldier Memorial Wall has over 100 plaques with Names of Ancestors of the area's citizens from the War Between the States. The Wall is the only one of it's kind in the State of Georgia.
