STILL IN THE DARK! (Tuesday 10/28/03)
?Well here we go again!?
Tuesday morning and still without power, toilets, and much of our outside contact. For all intent and purpose, San Diego County has slid right off the side of the continent!
Tossed out the decomposing chow, as with no refrigeration and not being much on caned food that was probably manufactured for the ?Army of the Potomac? back in 1862 - ?the stuff weren?t fitten fer hogs!?
As of 9:30 A.M., this date, heavy smoke and ash fall-out was starting to waft into our area. The strong Santa Ana Winds (up to 60 mph) that had been pounding us from the east have given way to a brisk west wind (on shore flow)! And this change of wind direction has, in itself, opened up a whole new can of worms! The smoke has not only driven whole herds of deer out of the boonies, it has also invigorated the taste for human blood in the armies of mosquitoes (the national bird of politicians) that are being driven down the mountain from higher elevations!
Well, they finally opened up an evacuation center, about 4-5 miles down the road. There is a doctor there, a nurse practitioner and even a mini pharmacy of sorts! We have no water, as the pumps require electricity to operate, ergo, no TV and no news of what is going on all around us! We have to call back east (friends), when the phone works, to find out what in the Hell is happening right here in our own backyard?!
Did manage to call SDG & E (Power Co.) and they were the eternally optimistic cusses, as they were hoping for power restoration by midnight. In reality, however, the power was not restored by Tuesday midnight as expected, but rather, not until 11:40 P.M. 3 days later, Friday, Halloween! ?Talk about your spooky!!?
Still no TV, No radio, no power, no shower - PU!!!
