![]() Here in wacko Massachusetts we have a town called Amherst. Berkley California has nothing on this town except size. This is the community that voted to only allow 8 American flags to be flown on a few holidays and only three (per state law) the rest of the year. The American flag, many in that town said, it is a sign of oppression in so very many places? They took that vote, on 9/10/01, it was somewhat reversed at the next week's meeting, guess you know why the vote was changed.
Well, they have done it again. Last year they were so politically correct the high school did not put on the play ?West Side Story? because it showed Hispanics in a negative light. So this year the high school is going to perform ?The Vagina Monologues?. Have any of you seen this play? There is a scene about rape, well ok but maybe a bit complicated for a 13 year old. There is a scene about an older woman having a lesbian affair with a much younger woman. There is also one scene where the speaker says the ?C? word at least 20 times. This play will be put on and viewed by kids 13 to 17, maybe a few 18 year olds. The general public is also invited. When I saw it there were parts that made me feel uncomfortable. Some of the issues were a bit confused and I?m 55! Many of the kids who will be involved in the production or viewing the play could not get into the theater to see the movie version of this play. Yet tax dollars, local, state and federal are paying for this totally inappropriate program. I?m not up for the Prude of the Month nor do I like the idea of unnecessary limits on Freedom of Speech. But the drama director, principal, school superintendent and town fathers seem to have gone over the edge. Will 14 year old?s go to local theaters to see X rated movies and tell the manager, ?It?s ok, I'm from Amherst and just doing research for next year?s play?. Liberals, the wacko liberals, have taken over the asylum. Hope a play like this is not coming to your local high school. If anyone knows of similar plays being put on by high schools, I?d like to hear about it. Stay healthy, Andy |

![]() Andy,
This play was in Beaufort, but restricted as to who could come see it. Certainly not at a high school. Deb went to see it and states it is in no way, shape, or form, appropriate for a high school audience. She also felt uncomfortable, etc. Limiting who can see something is not censorship, even though the wacko's would like everyone to believe that limiting anything is censorship. Fine, rent the movie and show it to your own 13 year olds at home. Packo

![]() Well, there it is Andy. You have gone over the line into fogeyish land and have reached the point of no return, LOL. Heck I?m an old fogy and I?d like to see ?Westside Story? again and all the deal with the Sharks vs. Jets and Maria, etc. Hmmm, bad sign eh, but I haven?t bought a bow tie as yet or got a crew cut so all isn?t lost at the moment. But I?m getting worried for sure.
Maybe we need the PC version of the Farmers Almanac so we can keep up with or ahead of all this ?advanced thinking? and way cool stuff about various forms of sexual expression. Goodness, I remember when the Playboy models sprouted pubic hair but these days that is just Marry Poppins ho-hum stuff in comparison. So anyway, if Amherst thinks it?s way cool to writhe around in the various aspects of the human condition in front of the youngsters, then it?s all about decisions and they have made theirs. Personally, I think they have taken away a lot from the kiddos for the sake of some stupid philosophy/cause. The late teens and early twenties should be the time for discovery and curiosity when it all can be put in a more mature and much safer perspective. But then I?m a fogy so what do I know. Scamp

![]() What do you want to bet that many parents will pull their kids out of that production? How many tickets will they actually sell? I'm doubting that they will have much of an audience. Even the name gives me second thoughts.
I agree that parents should be more involved in their kids lives, if they were, then they would have raised a stink at the school, perhaps enough to get this show canned. A local radio host here in Albany, NY came up with a great new title: Liberal Munchausen Syndrome= When liberals create a problem just so they can come up with a solution and look like a hero for solving the "problem" that they created to begin with.

![]() Out yonner here in the wild mild west we call that the Arsonist/fireman syndrome. It?s the exact same thing you describe but by a different name. We tend to be more primitive here so we just skin em and hang em. Or is it hang em and then skin em? I forget just now, but something like that.

![]() ANDY -
What in the Hell is going on in Amherst - do we only have freedom of speech if it is deemed correct by the few! First it was the Frito Bandito, and now the abolition of West Side Story! "There were no racial slurs in these things that I can see!!" Maybe next, we will get rid of the "Jolly Green Giant" as he may poke fun at lofty people, Speedy Alka-Seltzer as it helps one get over a hang-over, that fast-food Chihuahua as a few may claim a relationship to the contents of the tacos, the lizard on that insurance commercial as it may promote reptilian driving, or the M & M Candy figures as they promote stupidity and obesity! "Wow, you would think that some people would have something better to do with their gray-matter and time!! LOL AS FAR AS OPPRESSION - The Flag of the United States has always symbolizes just the opposite! I'm glad that I am (originally) from Fall River! The only problems that we had to deal with there was Lizzy Borden, rampant illiteracy, and of course - ME!! LOL VERITAS

![]() I saw the show on HBO. Would like to know what the women on here think of it. It had some good points. The presentation is raw, to say the least. I had heard there is a "Penis Monologues" also...

Wasn't there a gang rape at a pool hall in Fall River in the late 80's that and a fire at one of the Mills put Fall River back in the lime light!
