I wore my Green Bay Packer T-shirt today. Do they sell green bratwurst in Ireland?

Default St. Pat, top O' the day........

Sure, we?re all Irish today except St Pat. Poor fellow was actually an Italian (Roman). So away with the corned beef, cabbage n? ale and let?s have pizza and some good old Chianti or some other delicious dego red, yum.

Thumbs up ALWAYS A BIG DAY AT MY HOUSE

Especially when I was growing up. Both of my Mother's parents and her brother came here from Ireland as a family. They were from Co. Donegal. This was in the late '20s. She was the first child born here, followed by a brother and sister. Her maiden name is O'Driscoll, my middle name, and today is her birthday.

My Father's Mother [a Murphy] was a tiny Dublin woman that had a beautiful lilting brogue. Until she got angry, and then she would go into Gaelic. Didn't know what she was saying, but you knew it wasn't nice . She immigrated in the early '20s and ended up in upstate NY where she met and married my Grandfather, a French-Canadian who had immigrated from Quebec, Canada. My Dad was the first of 7 kids. He was born in Buffalo, NY and the 2 youngest ones were born in CA.

I usually take the day off if it falls on a Fri or Mon. Since it's today, staying pretty low key. I made some Irish soda bread last night [an annual thing for me], and am eating some now and washing it down with a Harp beer. Life is good. Will call my Mom later this evening. PROUD TO BE IRISH!

ERIN GO BRAGH!

About the time of Christ the island (Ireland, Eire) was organised into five kingdoms, the traditional "Five Fifths of Ireland". By AD 400 seven independent kingdoms had evolved. The kings of these kingdoms often allied their armies to raid neighbouring Roman Britain and the Continent. On one of these raids a lad of 16 was captured, returned to Ireland and sold into slavery. During his enslavement the boy turned to religion and some six years later at the age of 22 escaped. The young man studied theology in the Roman church and in AD 432 returned to Ireland, and began a lifelong quest of converting the Irish to Christianity. This was none other than Ireland's patron, Saint Patrick.

My Family is from Cavan County, The O'Reilly Clan & the McGowans. My generation is the last of the pure Irish blood (if you can call it that) straight from the island, in our family.

My Gram was so proud that we were "Black Irish" and not mixed with the Vikings of the north. Sorry Gam, but the "Black Irish" are dark because of the influence of the Spanish Armada. Seems they made is little sorjourn on the souther coast and moved north. Thats where the red hair, green eyes and olive skin comes from. Except for me all of my siblings carry these characteristics. Guess that old viking DNA was recessive after all.

May yer road be smooth and lack of stone.
May the wind be ever at yer back.
May the sun bring warmth to yer tired old bones.
and may yer heart be ever filled wi'love.

Okay, so it doesn't rhyme. Oh well, never said I was a bard, but I come from a long line of seanchean.
