A SLAP IN THE FACE OF ALL DECEASED POWs?
Ladies & Gents of Patriot Files -
Please forward this following diatribe to ?EACH & EVERY? member of Congress and the Senate! I believe that it speaks for itself!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Received via e-mail PM, 5 April 2004 from Shorty Estabrook, ex-POW Dear Senator Boxer: My proposal to you back in October 2004 had nothing to do with the bill pending in the House regarding the Purple Heart Medal. I was ver specific in stating that I wanted all Prisoners of War, past, present and future WHO DIE WHILE A PRISONER OF WAR and i repeat again WHO DIE WHILE A PRISONER OF WAR, to be awarded the Purple Heart Medal Posthumorsly. Congressman Filner will introduce a bill around 15th this month to accomplish this. We are looking for a Senator to introduce this into the Senate and perhaps have FOUND ONE. I wrote to you last October thinking you would champion this proposal/bill but you chose to ignore me. I fought in the Korean War and was wounded and captured and spent 37 months and 13 days in a Communist Prison where I witnessed 59% of my group dying. It would seem that my Senators and Congresspeople owe me a few seconds of their attention. Despite your lack of attention to this very important bill I hope I can look forward to your co-sponsorship when it is introduced into the Senate. The NEXT OF KIN of those who died while a POW are counting on our elected representatives for finality and closure in this matter. The remains of their loved one is still in that sorry North Korea. If (?) I am correct, this Bill would grant the Purple Heart to all POWs. And although this is a noble senament, Shorty Estabrook (Who himself, already has the Purple Heart for combat wounds), was seeking legislation to award this medal (posthumously) to those who "DIED" in captivity, mainly from frostbite, starvation, beatings, exposure etc.! Many of these magnificent (DEAD) Americans still lie in shallow, unmarked foreign graves, including in North Korea!!
