Default Question about gold strip patch.

Just wondering what these strips mean......I know what the others are.

It's my understanding that each "bar" represents 6 months of overseas or foreign duty.

Each bar represents six months in a "COMBAT ZONE".....not just overseas. They were never awarded for peacetime duty. They were for WW II service in the Zone and for Korea and Vietnam.
The "Overseas Bars" indicate that whoever wore that "Ike Jacket" was in combat for 2 1/2 years with 5th Army (the Patch on the right shoulder is the Combat Patch) The left sleeve patch is the "Generic" Armor Patch and the little patch over the right pocket is the "Ruptured Duck" which is the patch given to Honorably Discharged WW II vets. The wearer was a Staff Sergeant.

Melody,

I want to express my appreciation for your Grandfathers service to this country. That jacket needs to be put on display somewhere it is a remarkable piece of family and military history.

Peace on your path today,

Arrow>>>>>>
