9/11 Ride Foundation to honor Marines with presentation in New York City
9/11 Ride Foundation to honor Marines with presentation in New York City
Members of America's 9/11 Ride Foundation, Inc. will honor Marines from Camp Lejeune, N.C., during a presentation in New York City Saturday. America's 9/11 Ride Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports those who put their lives on the line daily as emergency workers. Based in Leesburg, Va., the foundation annually hosts the largest fully-dressed, police-escorted ride to all three of the 9/11 terrorist attack sites, according to the foundation's website. This year's ride starts Thursday at the site of the Flight 93 crash in Somerset, Pa., said Ted Sjurseth, America's 9/11 Ride Foundation president. The riders stop in Washington, D.C., Friday, and they arrive in New York Saturday. During an afternoon presentation, they will donate more than 1,000 autographed "Memory Never Forgotten" t-shirts to the Marines of 2nd Force Service Support Group. Marines from 2nd Supply Battalion, 2nd FSSG, will accept the shirts to send to their fellow Marines in Iraq. "We've got more than 24,000 signatures on these t-shirts," said Sjurseth. "President Bush even signed some of them." He said they have been collecting signatures from each of the three crash sites. "We're a deployment support unit, so everything that goes to our unit (in Iraq) comes from our warehouse," said 1st Lt. Christina Henry, Officer in Charge of the Deployment Support Unit, 2nd Supply Bn. "Being able to take part in the ceremony adds more significance to our work." "We know that our brothers and sisters are out there fighting for us," said Henry, "and it's great to know we've got this much support back home." The presentation will take place at the Hilton New York hotel in Manhattan Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Note: Submitted by: New York City Public Affairs Story by Cpl.
