Default Stand down,...

...A local stand down for the Capitol District, and beyond was held today at the elks club about a quarter of a mile from my house, took the day off from work today, and left yesterday early to bring Serenity to the Orthro office,...

...Stand down was too good in turn out, venture to guess 300/350,(edit)????, food, haircuts, counseling, surplus camo's, and cold weather gear for the up coming winter for the needy, there were vans, and buses coming in...

... Black Hawk arrived at noon, landing with the familiar woop, woop, woop and hung out for a few hours with people, family, and kids climbing in, and out, got 2 pictures, and will mail a couple copies to David, (no scanner, and too much of a dinosour to figure it out anyway if I had one), all services were represented, and service organizations, we probably signed up 35, Serenity came with me, and volenteered helping out, and gaining a whole new perspective, most only see service men, and women as GI Joe/Jane, but she was pushing wheelchairs, and helping the blind today, she's quite a good kid, she was leading the "groups" by alphabetized sings to different areas as it was held in adjoining builds,....

...I came as representitive of the DAV State, and Bill is an NSO at The local Va. One state senator made it, and our County Exective, ( he logged, and I wrote receipts), yaked with many, loaded a few down with the web sight address', and will probably see a few more names pop up here,...

...I know my boss is probably goona give me some Shi+ when I get back to work on Monday for slidding out early Friday, and I know he forgot I told him last week about the stand down, but oh well fire me, it would be the third time from that dealership alone , yes I am on my third tour there, 87-89, 93-95, 04-??, spent the inbetween years at the other Chevy dealership across the river 84-87, 90-92,...

...Stand down went real good, my first counseler that explained to me that I have PTSD was there, and is familar with the "present"... even stopped over to my house after, and we had a good hour conversation, she has been working in the system for 27 years, at only, shhhh, 49 years young, woludn't be where I be without her help in 99, (shhhhh, cute too),...

...Yea, good day... helping Brothers, and Sisters,...

your comment on the Blackhawk reminded me that last Tuesday Gov. Perdue (GA) came to my small town Nahunta,GA to access the flood damage to our 500 miles of dirt roads for State assistance to fix them after the recent Hurricanes/Tropical Storms. He had a Black Hawk escort and an outstanding Med-Evac Huey pilot landed in the middle-school front yard and that Pilot knew what he was doing when he touched down "No turbulance/rotar wash rushed fwd towards us and the Governor just walked off the Huey like he was getting out of the car. I think the Hueys' tail number was 126 and most likely was from Camp Swampy just north of here. What was funny to me and the wife was when the Local Newspaper "The Brantley Enterprise" stated the Governor arrived in a Blackhawk ! Thats the first time I heard of a Huey being called a Blackhawk

Default I am most amazed

At how the news media, both print and TV, will screw up things military. Hueys are blackhawks, the print media seems to refuse to use the standard three letter rank designations, Bradly fighting vehicles are tanks. Of course any vehicle with a tread is a tank. The news the other day was refering to "Morter Bombs" in Iraq. You would think with all of the military experts they dig up someone would tell them how stupid the sound or read. One other thing refering to a .45 cal pistol as a 45mm.

What a maroon.

I agree Sid the UH1H Bell Huey was a good multi purpose helicopter. Paint a red cross = Med Evac, add some guns it's a gunship The current Blackhawk is nice also but a different Era. From my perspective the cyclic stick(on the UH1H Huey) was difficult to work on when replacing the Interphone/Mic switch because of the open contacts. But all other comm systems were easy because you could gain access to them all with out having to take off panels on the aircraft skin.
