Default DHMO's a hoax - What about DMSO?

A hoax on the internet that started in 1997

dihydrogen monoxide

In March 2004 the California municipality of Aliso Viejo (a suburb in Orange County) came within a cat's whisker of falling for this hoax after a paralegal there convinced city officials of the danger posed by this chemical. The leg-pull got so far as a vote having been scheduled for the City Council on a proposed law that would have banned the use of foam containers at city-sponsored events because (among other things) they were made with DHMO, a substance that could "threaten human health and safety."

So with stuff like this going around, and being BELIEVED, it's no wonder that a real health issue goes unexplored and basically ignored.
... like crying, "Wolf, Wolf"
Shame on them.

Reminds me of how awful the virus makers are.

As to the 'warnings' of 2-butoxyethanol family of chemicals,
they are woefully lacking, which is the point of why I share information with you
What products should say

I don't believe it. I never heard of DMSO before, until mentioned on this forum this forum;
Quote:
I'm trying to remember the name of the chemical that was popular 25 years ago... DMSO? Not sure. I guess you're saying DHMO is the same as H2O... so this would be different. Anyway --

The one I'm thinking of was sold as a solvent, but then one of its unique traits became known -- You could rub the stuff on a patch of your skin and within 3-5 minutes your breath tasted like garlic. This was because the substance does have the power to travel through the layers of skin and enter the bloodstream. I know that part of it works from personal experience.

They also used to say the stuff could be mixed with other things and carry other chemicals along with it, and there were hopes of using it to speed medicines into the system. There was also some rumor about direct health benefits for this "solvent," but nothing I could nail down. Quicky best sellers were written about it. As far as I know, nothing came of that "use." I also began to wonder just how good or bad for me a "solvent" that could slide through the skin and carry other things into the blood could be... I stopped messing with it.
and now in less than 24 hours I heard about it from one of the Exxon Valdez oil spill workers.

He called me today. I had talked to him over a year ago; didn't know as much about EVOS issues then, as I do now. Anyway, he said that he was told the DMSO is used as a 'slickening' agent in the Alyeska Pipeline at Prudhoe Bay in Barrow, Alaska. That it is supposed to help minimize the friction on the inside of the pipeline so there won't be so much friction on the inside of the pipe.

He said it was really weird stuff. That in the time it took you to put the cap on the bottle, the amount you had in the palm of your hand had gone all the way through your hand & was like perspiration on the back side of that hand. AND that instantly you could taste this awful taste like rotten cod liver oil.

He was wanting to know how much of that might have been in the oil that was spilt from the Exxon Valdez ship 3/24/89 ... and whether that was a health hazard. Here's the MSDS for Alyeska North Slope Crude oil. I did it a year ago when someone gave me a copy ... and I looked up more info.

I remember when I talked to him before he said that he and his 2 brothers all had dark, thick blood ... compared to others that had blood drawn (since that time) I hear the 'gulf war vets' and the chronic fatigue groups talking about the same thing.

I think it has to do with the exposure, as I've said already, to 2-butoxyethanol. That it causes a fragility of the red blood cells. www.valdezlink.com/rbc_size_shape.htm

I've put together some info on the oil spill story. Exxon didn't want publicity at the time, and there were no cameras allowed then, either. www.valdezlink.com/inipol

There's a new book that came out Nov, 2004

What happened to the 'gulf war vets' of 1990-1991 who were exposed to the same chemcial as the Exxon Valdez oil spill cleanup workers?

DMSO (DiMethylSulfoxide) has been around for years. It's a topical pain killer used by vetrenarians on horses. It can carry disolved chemicals into the body through the skin so it has to be very pure or it can be dangerous. I've used it on sprains and the pain INSTANTLY went away. It was originally used as a paint thinner until a doctor from the University of Minnesota spilled some on himself after he had been using an insecticide. It almost killed him and he realized that the chemical could pss through the skin membrane. Further testing with the stuff brought out it's pain killing properties and anti-swelling properties. He was playing around with the stuff to use it to transport other disolved medications into the body without using needles.

Default You know a lot

Do you think that it is harmful in any way?

I remember noticing the density of inipol EAP 22 used during EVOS was .9 (less than one) and I was told that meant that it could be absorbed directly into the cells

"Exxon cautioned that inipol EAP 22 could be absorbed through skin"

Question: The literature says the density of inipol EAP 22 is .9 - being less than water, would that mean it would be absorbed into cells more easily?

This is what the Exxon Chemist, Roger Prince, said about Inipol EAP 22. It wasn't even on the internet, but I got a faxed copy from a governmental agent that had quoted it, and then typed it up and made this web page of it
