Default Awol

After reading this I dont feel as guilty as I did, but still to, even though I done my duty and Honorably in Nam.

Staggering amount of AWOLs on this:

5,500 US Soldiers Go AWOL from Iraq War - Many Go to Canada (2004)

History once again repeats itself as 60 Minutes recently reported that 5,500 US soldiers have deserted their posts since the Iraq war began. Many of those have turned up in Canada seeking asylum.
During the Vietnam war, tens of thousands of Americans who were drafted fled to Canada to avoid serving in a war their didn't believe in. With many soldiers realizing that the war in Iraq was not about protecting America from non-existent Weapons of Mass Destruction, but rather about securing more oil for US corporations, they are leaving their posts in droves.

These numbers also tell a story about the morale of those soldiers on the ground in Iraq who've been lied to by their government and held much longer than originally promised in Iraq.

The American public has likewise been lied to, and thus it's taking a very long time for people to mobilize in opposition to the war. What happened to all those who came out in opposition before the war? Where are the protests like we saw during Vietnam when up to 500,000 people came out one day in the biggest protest against that war?

In Europe MILLIONS came out against the US & British & Spanish involvement in the war. Yet Americans seem to be either so ignorant or apathetic or still supporting this illegal war.

America where is your voice against this injustice & state sponsored terrorism?

enough.............

I have a hard time feeling sorry for them. They entered the Military knowing full well what that entailed.

The only bright spot is that the ones they let down should be somewhat glad they rain with tail tucked. I wouldn't want that kind of person watching my back.

On a second note......Even if they see this war as illegal they should still fight. The military is not a PC place on the insides. You do your job....that you signed up for. They are wimps and &ussies. Hate to be graphic but they didn't let down the country they let down their fellow soldier.

"On average the number of soldiers, for example, who are classified as deserters is less than 1 percent, and the vast majority have committed some criminal act," said Pentagon spokesman Army Lt. Col. Joe Richard. "It's (generally) not for political or conscientious objector purposes. Any insinuation that large numbers of military service members have deserted in opposition to the war in Iraq when in fact desertion numbers for the Army are down since 9/11 is incredibly disingenuous."

Ditto on Melody and John
If history repeats itself, we'll probably vote in some liberal for president who will pardon all these chicken $hit, Bussies (I like that Melody) so they can come back and tell their grandkids how they fought in the war.

Just a word of caution on that cutNpaste thingie: there is not a word of truth in it. If there were 5000 AWOL's, there would be more news on it, but the figure is basically a crok - and coming from that news source that brought you the Dan Rather escapades, what do you expect?
