Its pilots somehow manage to lift off and clear the landing zone for the two waiting Hueys and move the doomed helicopter about a hundred yards over the jungle before crashing; two are killed instantly, the third dies two weeks later. The fourth crewman falls 80 feet into the jungle before the Huey explodes and is rescued the next day.

Late January 1973 (11th month, Year of the Rat): The unilateral cease-fire announced by Lon Nol's regime soon proves meaningless. The Khmer Rouge, controlling most of the countryside and reinforced by several thousand NVA and VC, increase pressure on the principal cities and lines of communications, and the Phnom Penh government is critically dependent on US material and air support.

THIRD INDOCHINA WAR:
January 29, 1979 (2nd day of the 1st month, Year of the Goat): Radio Hanoi says that some 200 Chinese troops have raided the northern frontier province of Lang Son.

January 29, 1979 (2nd day of the 1st month, Year of the Goat): Khmer Rouge guerrillas claim to have isolated the Vietnamese garrison in Phnom Penh and say that ten other Kampuchean cities are threatened.
