Thumbs up M-1 Garand

I took basic with the old M-1 and found one in Nam that I kept in the Jeep for what reason I'm not sure. I have been looking for one since I retired, I go target shooting a lot and made the mistake of taking Mama,(she never fired a weapon till this year), now she is a shooting nut.

I use a Ruger 9mm 95DC and I skeet with a Tri-Star 20 gage over/under, now I had to buy her a Baretta 22 cal. auto w/Red Dot Scope. We found Remington Long Rifle Brass Plate Hollow Points are real good at 75 yards for her, she hits 85 % to 90 % on a 6 inch bulls-eye which means at my age and weight she can give me an hour hemostat and still nail my butt.

Anyway I finally found my M-1, in fact I found 2. One has been worked over and is in a nice display case and all, and they want $1600 bucks for it, so I will leave that one go. The other is in good shape, wood needs some work and the works need some TLC but it's $300 bucks so guess what. What I am looking around for are some private party's that might have some parts for this old girl, anybody know anybody? .

Go to the DCM web site, they sell M1s and parts. (recommended)
What parts are you looking for? What do you want the M1s to do? Sub MOA shooters in M1s will cost you a lot of money.

KEITH, Speaking of which, When you going to send me some 06 cases for your rifle.

The M-1 Garand is a grand ole girl that had a definate and improtant role in history. If you can get one for $300,it looks decent, goes off more often than not when you pull the trigger, and is accurate enough not to endanger bystanders I'd call it a good buy. I'd hang it on the wall, appriciate it's history and that of the boys who fought with it, and maybe pop a few caps with it every year or so as a reminder of what it feels like to use.

If I was more interested in actual shooting,I'd have to go with an M-1A which (as is the M-14)is essentially a refined version of the M-1 Garand. All three use the same basic reciever and parts except that the M-14 and the M-1A are modified to use magazines and the 7.62mm NATO(.308 Win.) round and the M-14 has a provision for a selector switch.

Rats! Gotta get my wife to a Drs. appointment. Will post more when I get back.
