Honoring Our Fallen Prisoners Of War
An open letter to Congressman Duncan Hunter, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, in response to his letter to us....
-------------------------------------------------
Dear Congressman Duncan Hunter;
I wish to thank you for responding to our solemn plea for bi-partisan support of the bill known as HR 2369, the Honoring Our Fallen Prisoners of War Act! It was gracious of you indeed to join the numerous organizations and individuals who are now backing and/or appreciative of this long overdue legislation. We have, and will continue to expend every effort in expanding awareness of this splendid Bill that is now sitting in front of the Committee that you chair in Congress!
The gallant POWs, who expired from causes such as starvation, beatings, disease, medical neglect etc, were Americans, and I am sure that you too appreciate this as a combat veteran yourself. These were our brothers in patriotism, one and all, regardless of our own situations, service, or positions in life. As such, we all owe these brave and giving souls our thanks, our undying gratitude, and of course, our remembrance. ?We can not and must not ever forget what they gave to us!?
My uncle, a 20 year old Corporal by the name of Melvin Hampton Morgan was one of the many thousands who died in enemy captivity. In his case, he was a member of the Army?s 24th Infantry Division and he was captured in July of 1950, and died in North Korea of starvation and beatings at the hands of the brutal enemy on 6 December of that same year, this according to the Johnny Johnson list and the Defense Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office. His remains, unfortunately, were never recovered!
You asked me not to hesitate should I have any further questions or comments, and as such, it is in this respect that I am asking you to lend your valuable support to this worthwhile Bill, HR 2369!
Respectfully,
Ms. Hardcore
