Unhappy NUCLEAR REALIZATION or ARMAGEDDON?

Quote:
WASHINGTON POST:

September 11, 2005 [fourth anniversary of another date that will live in infamy..]

WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has drafted a revised doctrine for the use of nuclear weapons that envisions commanders requesting presidential approval to pre-empt an attack by a nation or terror group using weapons of mass destruction. The draft also includes the option of using nuclear arms to destroy known enemy stockpiles of nuclear, biological or chemical weapons.

The document, written by the Joint Chief staff but not yet approved by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, would update rules and procedures governing use of nuclear weapons to reflect a pre-emption strategy first announced by the White House in December 2002. The strategy was outlined in more detail at the time in classified national security directives.

At a White House briefing that year, a spokesman said the United States would "respond with overwhelming force" to the use of weapons of mass destruction against the United States, its forces or allies, and said "all options" would be available to the president.

Is this not a decision that should have been arrived at years ago, long before nearly the entire world had access to some form of mass destruction or another - ?THE BIG NUCLEAR STICK APPROACH?, so to speak?

At the end of WWII, the United States was alone in commanding the Nuclear Genie! And this ?Atomic Cat-Bird Seat? insured that peace would remain at least a possibility?

Granted, at the end of that War, we learned that the only two nukes in existence at the time (Little Boy & Fat Man) were successfully detonated above Japan. But in the four years that followed, until August 1949, I would be willing to bet that our arsenal of death grew to be quite substantial and monopolistic! ?This means that during that time, we alone held a patent on these weapons of mass destruction!

Were we naive enough to think that other unfriendly nations were not hard at work developing their own weapons of mass destruction? Or that, once developed, the whole complexion of world politics would not suffer a radical change?

So here we are, some 56 years later, and damned near every Tom, Dick, Ivan, Chin and Saddam-ite, either has, or will soon attain, their own warehouse-full of nukes. ?So now, well over a half-century late, DC is finally rattling our own nuclear saber - amazing!?

Could it possibly be that our scientists have come up with a -Twenty - First-Century version of the old Manhattan Project? Have we evolved to the next stage of ?Nuclear One-Upsmanship?, or have we finally just gotten damned tired of being harassed, threatened, and sneak attacked by national entities that could not lick our scientific/nuclear boots - GOOD QUESTIONS!

Are we finally telling the world that: ?Any more sneak attacks or terrorist activities will result in the complete annihilation of the attacker and his puppeteers??

The only question now remaining is - ?DO THEY BELIEVE US, OR ARE THEY FOOL-HEARTY ENOUGH TO TEMPT FATE? For that matter, has our lasting peace and security ever been maintained or guaranteed through threat alone??

ADDENDUM -

He who genuinely believes that peace and security can always be had through diplomatic means alone is a dreamer! For there are, after all, international entities who understand naught but force to counteract their own aggressive tendencies!

History has proven, time and time again, that the best (indeed the only) way to dissuade a villain is to convince that fool that any hostile move on his part, will result in his own (total) demise!!

By handling our enemies with kid gloves, we may have tried to show the world that we are forgiving and conciliatory. In reality, however, there are those within the (so-called) world community who consider our outstretched hand as a sign of inherent weakness. It is therefore a fact, that one can not ingest several slaps in the face without closing one's fist and issuing forth one helluva good trouncing to the aggressively minded! "DO YOU NOT AGREE?
