Unhappy Wind, Water & Greed!

Some years back, after my wife was pinned (on foot) between two cars by an uninsured, elderly driver, I learned the hard way that I (personally) could no longer trust the insurance industry! I had complete coverage, including uninsured motorist and our medical bills were extensive but the insurance carrier that we had for about 15 years (accident free) opted to fight our claim!

Just a short while back, as I have related previously, my son was hit head on by a gal who could not speak (she claimed) 10 words of English! It was amazing how, later at the hospital, the gal spoke better English than a college professor. ?Naturally, she was an alien and had no insurance!?

Well to cut a long story down to size, I just saw a story on the tube in which many residents of the New Orleans area are running into a similar scenario. It seems that elements of the insurance racket (opinion) are refusing to cover many of those who were nearly wiped out by Hurricane Katrina. It seems that these victims, although insured (even for hurricanes) had a ?Catch 22? thrown at them. The insurance companies in question, are claiming that their hurricane insurance only covers wind damage and not the flood that was part of the storm? ?Hmmm, hurricanes without a tidal surge - amazing!!

The only question now is - will they (the victims) prevail in their law suits against these insurance gangsters (another opinion), or will the government again step in, like the insurance industry, and claim that hurricane insurance does not cover water damage as well?

It is further my opinion that: ?had the wind and not the water caused the majority of the damage, these voracious insurance giants would have claimed that the victims were only covered by water damage and not the hurricane force winds!?

If in reality, these insurance companies are allowed to slither out of their high-cost policies, policies that have been paid upon for countless years in many cases, what will be next: ?Roof cave-in insurance, broken window insurance, landscape damage insurance, toilet bowl damage insurance, and maybe even coverage for only an Category 1, Category 2, and so on and so forth, intensity storm, and each of these must be specified and paid for by additional insurance premiums?

Yes indeed, it takes a natural disaster to bring out the best and worse in humanity. And to add insult to misery, a local school that had collected money to aid the hurricane victims was buster into and the funds stolen!

?Have we really progressed that far from the cave!!?

I knew this was coming the insurance people are down there and will aide them to a point within the contract as signed and agreed to. Also they will check to see if insurance premiums were current because some policies default and you're not covered.

I hate insurance most of all but without it you are totally screwed when you really need it. Those people haven't felt the brunt of it yet. Many will be disappointed and feel like their whole world is crashing around them.

These are tough times and many people can't afford insurance of any kind and they run the risk of total personal loss should they have an accident or loose their property without insurance.

I personally pay some pretty good premiums and have at times been forced to call them in for damage from weather but I too get the song and dance about what is and what is not covered.

Later they raise your premiums or cancel you or tell you that they are not reinstating your insurance coverage. How they can do this I've yet to find out but its happened to me more than once over the last 40 years.

BOATS -

"How they do it is because they are allowed to do it!"

Big lobbies, bought politicos, very little government control, vested laws, a sometimes indigent and corrupt bureaucracy, and of course, a legalized, one way protection racket of sorts! "You are raped if you don't have insurance, oft time screwed if you do!" Why do you suppose the insurance industry is so damned humongou$ - not because they protect or defend anyone, save for themselves! (opinion)

"If the truth were only known? The only problem is, it is known, but only to those who are part of the problem!"

Have you ever considered the possibility that some of what we think we have and think we know, is but a self-induced fantasy?
And to think that all of this time, we have been led to believe that the protection rackets expired with the Chicago of the 30s?

I was listening to NPR and the interviewer was talking to NO insurance adjuster. She asked if it were true that, while his company covered "hurricane-damage", it didn't cover damage done by wind-driven rain. He said that was true. She then asked, "But isnt' that the very definition of a hurricane?" He answered, "Well, yes, but they obviously didn't read the fine print when they signed the agreement!"

The guy should've at least worn a mask during the signing if he's going to steal from people.

Mask Hell - He should have worn a hood. That is what they usually put over a person's head just before they hang him!
