From the Battle of Gonzales to the Fall of the Alamo, Texas has seen its share of conflict.

You can brush up on our military heritage with a new map from the Texas General Land Office. Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson unveiled his new Great Military Map of Texas on Friday.

The hand-drawn map covers the years from 1685 to 1916 and features the sites of 28 battles that shaped Texas history.

"It's a great history lesson. It's as historically accurate as we could make it. We're not sure about a few things. There's been continuing discussion about, you know, ?What flag flew at the Alamo? What was Colonel Santos Benavides? Confederate uniform? What did it look like??" Patterson said.

The map continues a tradition at the Texas Land Office; every commissioner designs at least one map during his term.

Purchase a own copy of Patterson's Great Military Map of Texas at www.savetexashistory.org.
