![]() Just north of Duc Pho we were walking and talking and walking some more and all of a sudden everyone stopped and me and the Lt went to point to find out what was up. seem the point guy found a wire, The wire went up a tree and was hooked to a small cross bow wedged in the fork of a tree , the bow was cocked and had a bamboo arrow in it. . The wire was tripped and we started to move out, So , I went to the tree and got the bow.
I later sent it home to Ma. If you would like I'll show you a picture of it. Looks to be hand carved and it still cocks, I tried it yesterday. The Bamboo arrows are gone. Ron |

![]() Sure please do show it Ron. That was one of the only weapons we captured from a sanpan we stopped. but the Officers took it and displayed it in the ward room. No suviniers for the enlisted men.

![]() I was flying in a vee of 3 Hueys west of Duc Pho when we crossed a ridgeline at low level. I looked at the aircraft across from me and saw a crossbow arrow sticking out of the tailboom. We moved closer to confirm the hit, then the other aircraft moved in to check it out. Finally all of the guys on the aircraft that took the hit arranged to hang out and look underneath to see it. It vibrated out before we could land and grab it.

![]() Around Duc Pho you could have been hit by a spear. Not that would have been funny.

![]() We had that crossbow in the house for years. Too bad you're just giving it away. I remember firing it into the wall once.

![]() During the Christmas '66 stand down at Kontum, my bro Cos traded a Montagnard some C's and a knife for a crossbow and 4 arrows. It was about 3' long with about a 4' bow. Had to cock it with your hands and feet. Shot about a 3' arrow, and could put it through 3 sandbags at 20yrds.. A wicked weapon.

![]() I saw a LOACH get shot down by a HOE near Duc-Pho. The idiot pilot kept buzzing this dink who was working in his rice paddy and finally the dink flipped the hoe into the air as the LOACH made it's last pass. The hoe impacted the blades and the pilot had to put it down in the next paddy. We were laughing our a$$es off and the farmer made a hasty retreat. We had to secure the a/c until it could be lifted out by a slick. We told the pilot what a dumba$$ he was and also told him that if the bird wasn't hooked out by 4 pm we would take out the gun and radios and torch it. Helo's were mortar magnets when the sun went down.

![]() I heard of a Huey being shot down by a crossbow with the arrow going in the intake. Don't know anything else, though.
