Default Another Catch 22

Social Security uncovers illegal workers

Privacy concerns prevent the Social Security Administration from notifying an employer that a hired foreign national is not authorized to work in this country, including someone who may be a potential national security risk, says a government audit. [So if an employer hires a wetback who provided a forged or stolen SS card, how's the employer to know, if the SSA won't tell him?]

The audit, by the SSA's Office of the Inspector General, also found the agency fears employers will improperly terminate the illegal workers who have been issued Social Security numbers, leading to "adverse publicity." [For whom? The SSA? Are they running in a popularity contest? Who's this bozo in the IG's office working for, them or us?]

"Unauthorized work by noncitizens weakens [Social Security number] integrity and may require that the agency pay benefits to these individuals," said Inspector General Patrick P. O'Carroll Jr. in the audit. [Well, duh, they shouldn't have been hired in the first place! Is this really all that difficult to grasp?]

"In addition, noncitizens who work without (Department of Homeland Security) authorization could affect homeland security because they may obtain employment in sensitive areas." [Anotehr duhhh.]

Since 2003, the SSA has issued Social Security numbers, dubbed "non-working," to foreign nationals who need them to collect state or federal benefits, such as public assistance. [Why, if they're "non-working" foreign nationals, should the be entitled to ANY benefits?] The audit released last month as immigration-reform debate heated up on Capitol Hill says 109,064 foreign nationals used their non-working Social Security numbers to report earnings at 100 companies reviewed between 2001 to 2002. It said hundreds of thousands more also are using their Social Security cards illegally.

The report said employers that posted the largest number of illegal wage earners were government, retail and universities, and the largest number of noncitizens with earnings under a non-working Social Security number were from Mexico, India and the Philippines. The report said the average wage item ranged from $7,700 in the staffing industry to $102,000 in the technology industry, and technology and government accounted for $4 billion, or 64 percent, of the wages posted to non-working Social Security numbers by the 100 targeted employers. [Gosh!! I thought that wetbacks just took jobs that Americans didin't want to do. Bet I could find 2500 techies who would jump at the $102k per year job currently held by some wetback.]

To reduce the number of noncitizens who work without authorization, Mr. O'Carroll said SSA should consider examining its interpretation of existing disclosure laws and, if necessary, seek legislation allowing the agency to notify employers. [Now, there's a concept! Actually letting the right hand know what the left hand is doing? Shocking!! Wasn't this the problem of pre 9-11 intelligence?]

"We recognize the agency has not been tasked with the mission of immigration and workplace enforcement," Mr. O'Carroll said. "Accordingly, we believe maintaining the integrity of its [Social Security number] records should be of paramount concern to the agency as it accomplishes its legislatively mandated mission."

SSA officials disagreed with the recommendations, saying they would have a minimal effect while creating a substantial workload, both in systems development and in the field offices. They also cited privacy concerns, saying they were limited by the Privacy Act in what the could disclose to employers about a foreign national working in the United States. [Whose privacy are they concerned about? If it's the wetbacks, privacy laws are inapplicable. If it's the employers, they have a right to know who they legally hire. Why is this a problem?]

Default $

Its about money. SSA knows exactly who is useing the numbers. If John Smith (born In 1908) is all of a sudden working construction on the gulf coast, the SS office don't really care, because money is comming in. The problem is with the system, it should be tamper proff, but then the money wouldn't be comming in.
The IRS and SS offices both need to be scraped and start over, Kick everyone out of the UN building and use it.

Agree with eliminating the SSA and the IRS, (don't know which is more corrupt, lazy or inept) but turn the UN building over to Donald Trump, let him convert it to high-price condos, and SHAZAZZ, that pricy real estate on the river in New Yawk will start bringing some tax revenue instead of costing us taxpayers billions of $ per year.

Default UN

138 million $ in unpaid parking tickets by UN residents. Send the Bill to the UN, and when it arrived, have your hand on the electrical meter shut off. . The leaders in the USA are way to leaniant with other countries. .

The United States should withdraw from the UN, tell the other countries to go overseas and find their own little UN and leave us the hell alone.

Default The UN

Any unpaid fines, levies, taxes owed by the UN should be presented in an either/or scenario: pay the bills, etc, or off goes the electricity. OK, so they pay the bill, so use the lights to pack your bags and boxes, and move the UN headquarters to some third-world backwater, and let them reap the benefits of having their city overrun by diplomatic ingrates. And I think we should accept membership in the newly relocated UN by correspondence only.

Observations:

High buck Techie ?wetbacks? seldom come from Mexico or are Mexican ex-patriots, but more likely come in through the northern sieve sometimes humorously referred to as a border, and hail from everywhere, name it, we got m?.

California?s social welfare entitlements are the defacto world?s alternate retirement system. Just get there, be 65 or over and bingo, the manna flows. Very common to petition ?Mama? from some far distant land, get her all signed up for welfare, etc. and never mind that sonny boys are knocking down big bucks and livin high in Cucamonga, or wherever. On a boat or on a plane they come to retire in California?Bucks, Meds, food stamps, all of it....just show up.

Did they lower the IQ requirements for government employees?
Somehow I missed the interoffice memo on that.

You're making a giant leap of assumption, aren't you? For some governmental agencies, an IQ is either optional or a deterent to advancement.

As posted before, the SSA and IRS, since 1996, have the computer matched lists to shut down the employers hiring illegals and those who are engaging in identity theft. Ask yoiurself, why isn't this being used ? One word ... "Money". Illegals provide cheap, "non-union", and "no problems" labor for big business.
