![]() Some 146 years ago, the individual states erupted over, what they saw as, the ?Federal Government?s Attempts To Seize Absolute Power!? They perceived the seizure of certain powers and rights as being unjust (?) - powers that they felt had been reserved for them alone. And this, along with slavery, became a flash point to the American Civil War!
?It was an historic time that, when coupled with other national sore points, led us to four bloody years of civil strife!? The immortal words of Abraham Lincoln?s Gettysburg Address (19 November, 1863) would soon ring forth eternally, and add a solemn and lasting validity to many a portion of that dramatic speech! Quote:
The article below, although not critical to national unity, certainly echoes the fact that in some directions- ?Things Never Seem To Change!? The point in contention here [A National Driver's License] could remove needed revenue from the individual states and dissolve yet another state-held power in the process? Not to mention, of course, the fear among ?SOME? of again restricting and eliminating yet another function of the individual states, and surrendering it too, along with a danger of alien misuse, to the federal government, or so some within these states may logically fear? Of course, this current revolt over a ?National Driver?s License? did not begin in South Carolina, but rather in Maine, some 1150 miles to the north! And again, akin to the stance taken by Thomas Jefferson and other gallant Federal Power Advocates, "State?s Rights often finish a distant second to Federal mandate!" Could this be yet another ?State By State Tug of War? in an eternal battle for ultimate power? Or will this too, peacefully resolve itself (as is our way) through the courts and through the next national elections - you be the judge? Quote:

![]() Wouldn't doubt it a damn bit Robert!!! The veil of the Patriot Act could fast turn into a shroud if those behind it lose their direction. Of course, that is my opinion!

![]() A little thing like a 35% Tax on Imports started the last civil war and this Drivers License act could lead to the same thing just depends how strongly the states feel. Last time it was easier the 35% tax on imports was mostly coming out of the Southern Democrat States coffers and the Northern Industrial Republicans and their Democrat Allies needed that money to fund their expansion of the Steel, textile and Rail Road industry. So the South was only getting 25% of the return on their Tax Dollars to DC were as the Northern Industrial States were getting 75% of the revenue from Taxes to build their infrastructure. Now we have the UNFUNDED federal mandate for a National Drivers License standard. Smaller states like Maine with smaller tax base may not be able to fund the equipment and changes required. Who wants to be treated like a second class citizen and not be able to freely travel across the Country or Fly just because your Drivers License don't meet federal standards. Then there is the RFID chip they want implanted in your license that unless you shield it in a foil lined wallet anyone with the proper software could track you anywhere you go that takes credit cards with easy pass scanners. Just something to make you say Hmmmmm.

![]() In terms of States Rights it?s a tough call one way or another. However, as I see Arizona and New Mexico coming out against a cohesive and uniform I.D. system, it can only be assumed the stated objection is not the real objection and the real objection has a direct relationship with maintaining and growing their out of control situation that has no visibility or accountability or concern by those who can and should make a difference.
The New Mexico and Arizona logos need to be changed to something depicting a straw man wearing cross bandeleros, pistols and sporting the Mexican National Flag, apparently. Scamp
