KODIAK, Alaska - The 143-foot barge Brittney Moe drifts in 46 to 58 mph winds with a forklift, conex box and tools aboard in 12 foot seas southwest of Kodiak Island in Shelikof Strait Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at 10:47 a.m. after the crew of the tug Seahawk reported to the Coast Guard that they had lost the tow early Tuesday morning.

The barge is not currently in danger of running aground and arrangements are being made to recover it.

KODIAK, Alaska - Petty Officer 3rd Class Nathan Loveland, an aviation maintenance technician with Air Station Kodiak and a Weyers Cave, Va., resident, sights the drifting 143-foot barge Brittney Moe southwest of Kodiak Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011 at 10:48 a.m.

The crew of the tug Seahawk lost the tow in heavy weather Tuesday morning after suffering a partial loss of steering and the crew of the MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was directed to locate the barge and note its position while arrangements are made to recover barge.

KODIAK, Alaska - The 143-foot barge Brittney Moe drifts in 46 to 58 mph winds and 12 foot seas southwest of Kodiak Island in Shelikof Strait Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at 10:45 a.m.

The barge is not currently in danger of running aground and plans for recovery by the Seahawk, following repairs to their steering, or another tug are in motion.

KODIAK, Alaska - The 68-foot Kodiak-based fishing vessel Midnite Sun remains grounded at Tanaak Cape 36 miles northwest of Kodiak Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at 11:43 a.m. and salvage operations are underway.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Kodiak rescued five crewmembers from the vessel Friday at 1:38 a.m. in 52 mph winds and 18 to 20 foot seas.

KODIAK, Alaska - Crewmen working to salvage the grounded 68-foot Kodiak-based fishing vessel Midnite Sun wait for the tide to recede at Tanaak Cape 36 miles northwest of Kodiak Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011 at 11:44 a.m.

The Midnite Sun grounded Friday and the Coast Guard rescued the five crew and while no pollution has been sighted in the area heavy weather has damaged the vessel's hull causing some of the 6,000 gallons of diesel on board to escape.
