Lakenheath airman killed in collision identified

The airman from RAF Lakenheath who was struck and killed by a vehicle on the A1101 near RAF Mildenhall, June 27, has been identified as Airman 1st Class Tyler Patton, 48th Security Forces Squadron, according to a U.S. Air Force press release.
“Tyler was a combat veteran, a true patriot and a friend to all,” the release quoted Col. William Lewis, 48th Fighter Wing vice commander, as saying. “He will be sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”
According to the release Colonel Lewis also thanked all the members of the Liberty Wing for providing support and comfort to the Patton family and the 48th Security Forces Squadron.
“It is heartwarming to see the selfless response of Airmen across the wing whenever we have a family in need,” he said in the release.
The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Suffolk Constabulary, which said the driver of the car, an airman from RAF Mildenhall’s 352nd Special Operations Group, was not in custody as of Tuesday afternoon. His name was not released.
