A CH-47 Chinook helicopter prepares to sling-load an engine for an M88 tracked recovery vehicle March 8 at the Hohenfels Training Center, Germany. The engine was transported from Hohenfels to Schweinfurt, Germany by the 1st Infantry Division's 2nd Battalion, 1st Aviation. The Division's Company A, 299th Forward Support Battalion conducted day and night sling-load operations in support of the exercise. Soldiers from the company's Supply and Headquarters Platoons trained on the movement of general supplies, a task that is part of their Mission Essential Task List (METL) for both wartime and the KFOR mission. This was the first time this kind of engine was moved at night back to the brigade's headquarters since the Cold War,according to observer-controllers who evaluated the training.
