Secretary of the Army Thomas E. White adjusts the Korean War Service Medal around Richard C. Knoebel?s neck at an awards ceremony during the Spirit of America 2002 show held at the MCI Center in Washington, D.C, September 28. Knoebel, who retired from the Navy in 1962, along with veterans representing each branch of the Armed Forces was awarded the medal from the Korean government. At the time after the war, American soldiers were not allowed to receive and wear foreign medals. Congress changed that and today all American?s who fought in the war are eligible to receive the medal.
