A side-scan sonar unit is lowered into the waters off the coast of California during Fleet Battle Experiment Juliet (FBE-J). Sonar is used to locate underwater mines, to enable safe navigation of amphibious forces to reach the shoreline, during exercises in support of ?Millennium Challenge 2002.? MC-02 is this nation's premier joint integrating event, bringing together both live field exercises and computer simulations throughout the Department of Defense.
