Function: Infrared countermeasures device. Description: The AN/ALQ-144 system is an active infrared countermeasures device designed to protect helicopters from infrared (heat seeking) air-to-air and surface-to-air threats. The continuously operating, omni-directional jammer utilizes variable frequency infrared pulses to decoy or jam an incoming missile's seeker head. The AN/ALQ-144A (1) and (3) are upgraded versions of the AN/ALQ-144 (V)1 and (V)3 for helicopter applications. The fixed-wing version is designated the AN/ALQ-147A (V)1 and (V)2. The AN/ALQ-144 system consists of a transmitter assembly and an operator control unit (OCU) with dual capabilities. The total system weight is 30 pounds. |
