Royal Marine Eric Walderman from the British Army's 40 Commando wears a bullet-riddled kevlar helmet on Wednesday. The helmet saved his life after it was hit by four bullets during a firefight in the assault on the southern Iraqi port of Umm Qsar.

Point of fact



The Royal Marines are part of the Royal Navy not Army.



Basic Training is 30 weeks long ( yes 30! ) culminating in 2 weeks of commando tests including a 30 mile speed march (yomp) that must be completed in under 8 hours (officers under 7Hrs). They are the UK's special forces.
