Default BOXERS

Joe Lewis and Sugar Ray Robinson- Both Army

Cassius Clay [Muhammad Ali] never served. He was drafted, but refused to go based on his religious beliefs. He had recently become a Muslim [Doesn't seem to stop those Muslims everywhere else]. He was finally classified as a CO. It was quite a scandal back then, and almost ended his boxing career.

Fris, thanks for setting me straight on that one. I had always been under the impression that he served. How can one be a CO and still pummel people to near death? That makes no sense what so ever.

MM, you'll love the book!

Jack Dempsey was in the Coast Guard. Also Jimmie Stewart flew bombers in WW2 over Europe in the AAF. Glenn Ford was an officer in the Navy as was Robert Montgomery.
