Default Jail vs. Pauperization?

With some of the corporate thugs exposed, and the harm that they have brought to America by their greed, I'm of the humble opinion that the appropriate punishment, after being found guilty, of course, is to pauperize the bastards, to the total amount of what they stole, plus court costs. Take everything away from them - make them live on the street if necessary. I don't want one dime of my tax dollars feeding them in a federal pen. It is their pride and arrogance that turned them into criminals, so I say attack their pride by making them beggars.

Post Confiscate All their Wealth!

That would be the best punishment of all. The government could make a little money. And, they would be really punished. I'll vote for that.

Let the Punishment fit the crime. That would be a great fit.

Wink non-jail

We had a really bad slum lord who got brought to court for literally hundreds of health code violations. He went to court in the middle of the winter. One of his buildings had no heat (oil burner had broken a year before). He was given one of those braclets to insure he remained under "house arrest" and was sentanced to 3 months in one of his own buildings. I thought that was very good "creative sentancing".

Maybe the Enron types could be forced to sell their homes, take the money and go door to door giving share holders cash.

Stay healthy,
Andy

Default Very Sensible...Fellas.

Unfortunately, and with rare exception, the only places that one gets to read such common sense approaches are on forums such as this, which only the relative few get to appreciate. Wouldn't it be nice if the general public were also privy to such realities and truths?

Though, and for the life of me, I'll never understand why corporate thieves and perpetrators defrauding thousands even need Congressional Hearings regarding flat-out-thievery?
Shouldn't The Justice Department be taking care of such matters?
Such worked for Gotti and such. So, what's-the-hang-up?

Besides, what's all that nonsense about needing new laws, rules and regulations to properly penalize corporate thievery?
If there are already thousands of laws, rules and regulations on the books for punishing: "We The (Schnooks)" and/or "Marks", aren't such good enough for also handling Millionaire and Billionaire THIEVES?

Sure, anyone accused in the general public are usually tried on one or two counts of thievery, and fined and punished accordingly.
But, SO WHAT? When warranted for these Millionaire or Billionaire con-artists, merely multiply the fines and counts by 5 or 10 thousand, or however many of The People whom were ripped-off. Hey,...what's wrong with giving back all of the monies stolen from The Victims? I certainly see nothing wrong with trying Millionaires and Billionaires similarly as the rest of us. Do you?

Neil

Default Qwest

My wife has been working for that company under it's various names for last twenty five years. We thought they had an excellant savings and stock plan. Then along comes this thieving bastard of a CEO named Joe Nacchio and bankrupts the place. Our stock that was up to $75 is now at $2 or less. It wasn't until last April that non-management (that would be her) employees were allowed to diversify investments in the company plan. So we have gone from having a rosie future with both of our retirement plans, bought with hard work over the best part of three decades, to looking at working till we die. And that cocksucker Joe cashed out HIS stock for (now get this) 300 MILLION DOLLARS. It's no misprint. Who in the hell is worth 300 MILLION DOLLARS. No punishment is enough for these bastards. I just want to call my buddy in NJ, tough Tony and let him handle it. I'm so goddamned mad at that prick I could chew nails. Hey Joe, if you're out there NEVER NEVER EVER let me know where you are. Might just bring back those old bayonet training moves.

I believe 5 or so years working at min wage at a place like a steel coke plant like the old US Steel Clairton, PA, facility would serve as a beginning of a much needed education in humanity and reality. That is, after being stripped of ill-gotten gains and a year or so in some crowded, stinky, county slam. These days, it seems that a Phi Beta Capa key, an upscale suit, fancy-ass car and top of the line restaurants have replaced the traditional mask and 38.

Somehow or another the back of this thievery disguised as arrogant elegance must be broken. Take em down hard I say.

It seems the "higher" education afforded the wealthy and politically affluent families of this country has failed to teach them the basics such as what happened to Rome. The raiding that took place right after 9/11 is another example of business as usual no matter the costs. There is only one solution to this matter, the money needs to be paid back. The government needs to step in NOW and pay every cent back to these people who lost money in these frauds. This is no longer a matter of capitalism but just pure greed. I remember when the S&L's failed, the government took 77 billion out of social security to keep them running. That's right, the government paid the rich to keep screwing the poor. The problem now is the average citizen is not going to demand this.
