Question Two questions?

My fellow comrades, can You help old "Topp" out.
Question 1- Is there any one really close to Ft. Campbell, Ky. ?
Question 2- With the tragic loss last night of the Black Hawk, Have anyone
heard anything about a memorial being held at Campbell? I would like to try
and attend. I guess I could call PAO, but haven't got the contact yet. It is
another sad day througout the ranks. "God bless"

Thanks Mike. I didn't do any time with the 101st in Nam but I did do My last
8 yrs of active with Them before I retired. So i do feel what They feel. I would
probably say at the NCO calls, 1SG calls, etc. I 've been in contact with every single bde, and seperate unit in some fashion. Thanks for the condolences.
You know this makes #34 for the 101st since this battle began. They also
battled Their way into Baghdad. So sad that They may have to lose others
before this is over. My God! what price we have to pay. I hope the average Joe smuck on the streets can see this. Thanks again Mike.

It's about 350 miles from here. By the way, have you ever heard of a world famous long hiker named Grandma Gatewood?

Grandma Gatewood (1888-1975)

Emma "Grandma" Gatewood didn't look like much of a hiker. But sometimes looks can be decieving. During an illustrious hiking career that spanned eighteen years, she thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail not just once but twice (approximately 2200 miles). She section hiked it a third time. The also hiked the Chesapeke and Ohio Canal Towpath From Washington, D.C. to Cumberland, Md, the Long Trail in Vermont, the Baker Trail in Pennsylvania, the Buckeye Trail in Ohio. And on the 100th anniversary of the Oregon Trail she hiked the entire 2000 mile length in fifteen days less than what most of the historic wagon trains had taken.

During her second AT thru-hike she took no rest days and completed the rugged journey in only 4 1/2 months, just a few days before her 70th birthday. He secret? "I always lived on a farm and was used to hard work." "Most people are pantywaists. Exercise is good for you."

What also set Grandma apart was her disdain of the latest and most robust equipment. Backpackers wore sturdy boots to protect their ankles. Grandma wore US Keds. They used expensive parkas and expensive bugproof tents. She used a rain cape and a plastic shower curtain. They carried expensive frame packs that distributed their loads evenly. Grandma didn't carry a heavy load. Her items of extras clothing and gear were few, and she carried them, along with her food, in a home-made bag simply draped over one shoulder.

from "Beyond Backpacking " by Ray Jardine.

#34 for the 101st, eh? That's a lot of people Topp... a lot of people.

Battle Ribbons are earned, perhaps not won...?

Sorry Topp... hope you'll get to be with your unit again soon, to mourn and to be grateful for who remains.
