USS Kitty Hawk receives fuel from the replenishment oiler USNS Rappahannock (T-AO 204. Replenishment of fuel and supplies while at sea allow Navy ships to remain on station indefinitely. Rappahannock, one of 13 replenishment oilers operated by the Navy's Military Sealift Command, is crewed by civilian employees of the Department of the Navy.
