Worn from 5 May 1942 to 13 October 1945
Tab: "Phantom" Worn from 1945- unknown Tab: "Remagen" Activated at Fort Riley, Kansas. The Arabic number nine shows the division's designation. The tab for this version is credited to the Germans. On three separate occasions the Germansreported the Nonth had been destroyed and on all three occasions they were wrong- thus, the nickname. The inscription of theNinth changed from "Phantom" to "Remagen" after its uccess at the Remagen Bridge on the Rhine in 1945. This tab, "Remagen", commemorates the capture of the Ludendorf Bridge on 7 March 1945. This was the last major barrier protecting Germany from an allied push across the Rhine and its capture changed the course of the war. Campaigns: WWII (Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, Central Europe) |
