National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers  Popular

Our facility was created on March 3,1865 by President Abraham Lincoln to care for Civil War soldiers. We are now known as the Dayton VA Medical Center. We are one of the original facilities for what is now the Department of Veterans Affairs.

1215: Following a revolt by the English nobility against his rule, King John puts his royal seal on the Magna Carta.

1775: George Washington is named Commander in Chief by Congress.

1779: American General Anthony Wayne captures Stony Point, New York.

1863: President Abraham Lincoln put out an emergency call for 100,000 troops from the state militias of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, and West Virginiain to help protect the capital.
