Arvilla, a 46-foot motor boat, was built at Wilmington, Delaware, for use as a pleasure craft. The Navy acquired her under lease for World War I service, placing her in commission USS Arvilla (SP-752) in May 1917. Though sunk in a collision in August 1917, she was repaired and remained in use as a patrol craft for the rest of the "Great War". USS Arvilla was decommissioned a few months after the conflict's end and in March 1919 was returned to her owner.
