Joyance, a 119-gross-ton steam yacht with torpedo boat lines, was built in 1907 at City Island, New York. She was originally named Cavalier. The Navy acquired her in May 1917 for World War I service, placing her in commission in July 1917 as USS Joyance (SP-72). She subsequently operated in Long Island Sound and New York Harbor as a patrol vessel. Decommissioned in May 1919, Joyance was sold in August of that year.
