USS Manito II (SP-262), 1917-1920

USS Manito II, a 23-ton motor yacht, was built in 1912 at Nyack, New York. She was purchased by the Navy and placed in commission in May 1917. Through World War I and beyond, she served as a patrol craft in the Charleston, South Carolina, area. Manito II was sold in March 1920.

1972: President Nixon, despite the ongoing communist offensive, announces that another 20,000 U.S. troops will be withdrawn from Vietnam in May and June, reducing authorized troop strength to 49,000.
